For 2020 Yamaha has released the FT 1200 supercharged 4 stroke built 100 % in Japan. The Festering Turd 1200 will have a supercharger integrated into the existing turbocharger thus increasing the vehicle weight by 4%. Head engineer Constantine Fernando stated that Yamaha owners don't care about weight so no expense was spared to increase the weight at every juncture. The dry weight of a 131 inch model is now an even 1000 lbs. They will come with Tuner 4 skis which are modeled after 1967 Polaris Mustang skis and be constructed of durable cast iron. Power steering will be standard of course and will be solar powered with a back up battery. There is no seat at all on the FT 1200 so the rider can stand up all the time so he gets to think he is going really fast. The FT 1200 will get 27 miles to the gallon because it is important for the average snowmobiler to never spend any money ever on things like gas. Or food. Or medicine. Or anything. Snowmobilers like to make money every time they sit on a snowmobile.
Except you can't sit on the FT 1200. You have to stand up all the time, this is good for your knees too because they don't have to bend . Your knees will be joyful. Finally the FT 1200 will only cost $29000 dollars American. We at Yamaha know we could charge anything we wanted and the Yamaha faithful would buy it anyway but we figured we would be nice guys. Oh, and there won't be another new model for another 15 years. Cheers!!!!!

The non believers(non owners) will never understand.
The Apex is the hybrid between the old sit in sleds and the new High CG over suspended sleds.
I seriously can run the twisties faster on the 2011 Apex than the 2015 or 2018 AXYS sleds I have. Not to mention the linear 4 cyl 4 stroke no vibe pull. nothing else like it.

What I dont understand is if a 4 stroke makes more torque down low than a 2 stroke, why does Yamaha have their sleds engaging belts at such a hgh rpm and have to rev so damn high to make power? I tested one and it seemed like the NVH was as high as a 2 stroke.

W... why does Yamaha have their sleds engaging belts at such a hgh rpm and have to rev so damn high to make power?...

The Apex and the original RX-1 use a gear reduction system so as to not over rev the clutches...while the motor may be spinning 4k at take off, the clutches are more like in the 2900 rpm range...I'm guessing at the numbers but the concept is right. The 3-cyl motors don't use this gear reduction so they seems more "normal" to people used to 2 strokes...

Yep on the gear reduction. Engines spinning too fast for the clutching. Thus more weight, and ps needed. Reduced weight was not in the design period.

I know a guy whose sisters hairdressers boyfriend heard that Yamaha has partnered with Ford in the engine department. Optional engine is half size of the 2.7 liter ecodiesel that has been so successful in their trucks. Think of the low end grunt in sled.

This option will also put an end to the ethonal or no ethanol debate.

Ain't nothing funnier that picturing some website sled jockey smearing his keyboard with potato chip grease off his pathetically fat fingers as he complains about Yamaha sled weight.

I have not heard the rumor but like the 2018+ 2,7 turbo; 400 lbs of torque down low.
