Should take about 2 hours one way and that would be a leisurely pace. Pine stump would be a gas stop on the way but you should be able to get to Grand Marais without the gas stop. Good food at Pine Stump and the Grand Marais tavern. We used to stop at the Eagles Nest to watch sleds skip the water but that was many years ago and I don't know if that spot is still accessible. Most of the scenic spots I know of are not on the state trail. The log slide is just west of GM and that is always a good stop.
