Heading to Newberry tonight with a group. How are the trail/off trail snow conditions? Any information is greatly appreciated.
Thank you!

Newberry is junk, it was since Sunday even with the 3 measly inches we got Monday evening. Grooming efforts on 9 are very questionable, I'm lucky I still have my teeth after yesterday? Pine Stump & North to Paradise & grand Marais are very good, off trail up there is good as well. Its going to be near 40 the next few days so its not going to be great trail conditions. Lots of people showed up last night & I assume its going to be a busy weekend seeing that's the only area with any snow depth other than the Keweenaw. Did 272 miles on Wednesday, all in Seney & Grand Marais, They were all in excellent shape. Rode a little on Tasa & Paridise but they were in poor condition so we turned around & went back to GM & Seney.

thanks for the feedback! We are actually staying at Hiawatha. We have to ride into Newberry to pick up some sleds(some guys renting). The plan is mostly off trail, but we will have to ride some trails. i knew it wasn't going to be great....

I just got back from that area, off trail was junk, all set up, no powder. Trails were good, lots of midweek traffic.

Newberry has done the best job plowing their streets down to pavement i have ever seen. No one should expect grooming at above freezing temps (it was brutal) and road trails will not be pretty with a prolonged melt down. That being said had a blast, 21st -24th Paradise to Big Bay we found better trails west after the recent snows. Let us know how it went.

Was up there fri-sun. Stayed at Hiawatha and stayed inside off trail for most of the time. what i did see of Trail 2 was Snirt at best. The snow was wet and heavy, but still better than sitting home with 45 degree weather. All of UP needs more snow.

That seems to be a long standing tradition with Newberry, certainly in and around town they have always seemed to plow with a vengeance, or perhaps I should say ruthlessly — "they ain't got no ruth[SUP]1[/SUP] at all"!:stupid:

Need any more evidence?

[SUP]1[/SUP] ruthnoun: a feeling of sympathy and sorrow for the misfortunes of others

I was up there on Saturday. Slush and snirt. On a scale of 1-10, maybe a 3. They need more snow to get back to what you would expect this time of year.

I certainly understand the plow guy's thoroughness, it was a good warm day to plow clean. And if it was me I'd be mighty proud of my work for the residents.
Life must be good when you can once more stamp your boots clean before stepping into the car.

P.S. thanks for that tidbit of wordsmithery
