I am having problems getting my lights to work. I got a new stator from rm stator. That worked to get my sled to run but no lights, so I had to send them my old stator and the new one. They rebuilt my old one sent it back I Put it in and The lights have a small orange glow. I unpluged the plug that goes into the voltage regulator and no change the orange glow was still there. What do you think it could be? This is driving me crazy. been working on it sence july. If I was to unplug the regulator would the light go out or would they get really bright because all the juice is going to them and not into the regulator?

I think you need to bring this to someone who knows how to test the Electrical system on your Sled. It may be something as simple as a bad Ground. Sometimes paying Labor is cheaper than buying Parts you don't need and can't return.

I know this is not the advice you wanted to hear, but its most likely the reason no one else is helping.

I have had bad experence with RM Stator. I assumed that it was a good stator I got from them for my 02 MXZX 800. It was bad out of the box. Also going against you is the spec for stator output in the Skidoo Manual is wrong.

Two questions:

What is your stator output reading?

Did you have a lighting problem before you replaced the stator?

There was nothing wrong with the lighting before I damaged the stator. The oms were 8, I called the dealer and I think I am just going to take it in. dealer said it sounds like they wired my lighting to the ingition. If rm stator mess up this one they will be paying the dealer to fix it.

Took the sled to the dealer and

Well I took the sled to the dealer I give up. They checked it out and thought it was the voltage regulator. No light and no reverse. I had them put in the new regulator and that got the reverse to work but no head light yet. Stator is working, new regulator, new flywheel no Head Lights. Any one ran into this yet, ever. I have replaced everthing but the wire harness. The bulbs have a little glow to them so they are getting some power to them.

Have you tried posting your problem on DooTalk? Not to take anything away from anyone here, but it's nothing but Doo over there. Chances are that somebody has had a similar problem to yours and knows how to deal with it.

You should first figure out if you have a short or if the stator is in fact bad.

Unplug the harness down by the recoil and test your stator output. With the engine running you should be able to rev the engine and see the voltaget go up on the meter. If it's good you know you have a short on the machine somewhere.

Look at the wiring under the seat it's pretty common area for a short.

Dim Lights is usually a bad Ground. Run a jumper Ground Wire from the - on the Lights to the Engine and see what happens.

The stator was rebuilt , rewired by RM stator. Dealer said the ground is good. When I tried to test the voltage at the stator I could not get close to the sled with the voltage meter. Every time I did the meter would go crazy. I checked with the dealer and they said some do have interference with the meters. So I took it to them and they still have it. They are not sure what it is yet. The dealer also said that my regulator is an amplifier it increases the power on mine not decrease. Like I said before there was nothing wrong with the lights till I broke the stator so I bought a new one from RM stator that was bad from the start so they re-coiled mine old one and they at lease glow now, they did not glow with the new one. That is why I think it is teh stator yet but teh dealer says NO. I am about ready to part this out and get a new one.

I try not to do to much mud slinging but just maybe you have a defective dealer that can't perform a simple test to see if you have a defective part.

It's very simple to test stator output on any machine.

Stator was bad. I got my money back from RM stator and am now buy a new one from skidoo. Dealer hooked up a 12 volt battery to the stator connector and my lights work but would not work when the stator was installed
