Looking for anybody who might be riding in the Finland/Isabella area this weekend and doesn't mind a guest. My wife and kids left for FL this morning for a week and the guys I was going to go up to the cabin with had to cancel. So now I'm stuck heading up there by myself and riding alone. I ride a long track and do mostly back country riding but can ride trails too.

Or I guess if anybody wants to drive up there for a day and I can give them a great back country tour. Just got 12" of fresh snow overnight.

I maybe interested. I have no one to go riding with this weekend. Was planning to go to my cabin at Mille Lacs Lake but they really didn't get much for snow.

I'd try to go back country with ya but I've only got a 122 track and doesn't work all that well in deep stuff.

I wouldn't be able to get up there until late late Friday night or early Saturday.

Josh,
I ended up finding some guys to ride with for Saturday but I appreciate the response. Some other time maybe!

I don't know where I even got this idea, but I thought you couldn't go off trail in Minnesota. I know private land surrounding trails is off limits, but is state land like state forests open to boondocking?

I suppose we could let this move over to the thread on the Misc board about back country and trespass issues. Most of the land in Lake County is state or federal land, either the finland state forest, the superior national forest, or the BWCA (but we stay out of there)only about 5% is privately held. My understanding, and explained to me once by a friendly conservation agent, is that forest roads are open to ride unless they are posted, gated, or plowed. Throughout the state and national forests there are main forest roads, numerous logging roads, and the occasional power line. the biggest challenge we run into is plowed forest roads. On a weekend you're up there they may not be plowed but the next weekend they are due to logging activity.
