Spent the weekend at the cabin in Finland this weekend. It was St Urho's weekend in Finland, lot's of people and sledders in town. Rode the NSST and through Tettagouchee SP on Saturday morning and trails were excellent. After the parade on Saturday we headed north of Finland and rode some forest roads, had a big fire on a lake for a cookout, and then ran some more forest roads and the NSST back to town. By Saturday evening the NSST was getting bumped up in corners but over all still very good. My son wanted to go riding on Sunday so we ran the NSST up to near the Tomahawk and then ran over the Mtn and took the powerlines all the way to Hwy 1. Good times! Trails were excellent on Sunday again. There's enough snow to be riding for at least 2 more weeks yet. We stopped and took a picture of the amount of snow on a picnic table at the campground in Finland. Lot's of snow still.

Warning!!!!! For North shore don't get premium gas at the Spur in Silver bay, use the Mobile up the street. On Sunday (3/13/11) All 3 sleds in our group and a guy at the Mariner hotel (next door) quit right after filling up. My son's and another guy's never even made it out of the lot.
Owner did turn off the premium pump and had supplier come pull a sample, but no results yet. Then a local came along and help me get to truck for fresh gas and tools and said he's also had problems there along with yet and local. Bad way to start the day when I knew the trails were great, a least we did ride the day before and the trails were great 2 miles in from Silver bay to the Finland area.

I haven't made it up that far yet this year but if their snow is anything like the snow we have in the Finland area, you'll be fine. I plan to go up the following weekend yet.

You should be fine with Hungry Jacks, be sure to contact them later in the week on the trails. The new lodge is very nice was there last weekend. Also, I would try the swamper trail, the Gunflint (not the expressway) and take the NSST South as far as you care to for the optimal ride/trails.

Conditions were perfect last weekend, and light rain should affect it much other than the Gunflint close to Hungry Jacks, it gets snirty in the corners where the sun can hit it. Just keep going South and it will keep getting better.
