North Shore riding

So we got out for another weekend of riding the North Shore near Finland. On Friday my son and I rode from our house in Cloquet to our cabin and had a great ride. Trails around Duluth were in excellent shape. Crossing a large field north of Duluth we saw a very big wolf out there. So we got to within about 50 yds and watched him watch us. As we tried to motor closer to him he ran off into the woods. Pretty cool. Once we got to the NSST it was pretty smooth sailing all the way to Finland except for some sleet that caused some serious iceing of the googles.
On Saturday we rode north and got up past Isabella on the forest roads and had a great ride. Forest roads were great and we got away from all the crazies on the trails. Haven't seen that many sleds on the trails up there in a long time. Found a great spot to build a fire and cook some lunch. Beautiful day, about 40 degrees and blue skies. On the way back that day a wolf crossed the forest road in front of us and stopped in the woods just off the trail. So we all stopped and looked at it, probably no more than 15-20' away at first. Watched it for a couple minutes as it finally wandered away.

Trails up there this weekend may be in rough shape, getting some thin spots last saturday and then the 55 degrees on Sunday plus being above freezing all week this week aren't helping. Its St Urho's day in Finland on Saturday so there'll be a big crowd but probably not much riding as access from town will probably not be great.
