North shore riding

Got up to the cabin near Finland yesterday with my son and a friend of his. Wow was it deep. Areas we were stuck in it was mid chest deep, roughly 56-60". Spent about 1 1/2 hrs trying to get out of the last couple stucks. Glad I had two 17 yr old strong kids with to help dig out sleds! Sorry that some of these are sideways, I still don't understand how to get them oriented properly from my I-Phone.

I know you like going out and getting stuck Troy, but MAN that's a lot of work digging out!!

Was actually in northern Sconnie the last 4 days, and my old play areas were all untracked - sure wished I had a 155x2", might have taken a run through some of it, but not with the 137x1.3" - NO WAY. I don't think it was mid chest, but my son wiggled down off the side of one of the forest roads we were running and it was over his waste, probably all of 36" on the level. Great snow year for sure!!

Will be up that way next Wednesday. Definitely looking forward to riding. Positive note is that 30-31 degree temps are comfortable to be outside in......hope it don't warm up much more than that.

Thanks Kevin, it was a epic day, probably the deepest I've ever rode up there. I've been telling myself one more new RMK and then maybe I switch to more trail oriented sled but after as much fun as I had yesterday I think RMKs will be my next several new sleds. Ran into a 70 yr old guy on the power lines having a ball.

Enjoy it, trails should be perfect and there's a ton of snow in the back country.

Elf, im looking at getting up towards Lutsen area then back down to silver bay in a day. Any must see areas up that way? Figure that there is some places to stop for food and gas in that town.

As you leave Silver Bay I'd take the trail that heads through Tettagouchee State Park towards Finland. Then take Georges Gorge trail through the park. Theres also a great overlook along that route. Once you get to the Lutsen area you have a choice of the trails following closer to the shore or staying on the NSST. Closer to the shore in the Tofte area you'll go through Temperance River State park and its got a neat bridge over the gorge. You can also find your way up Carlton peak if you know where to turn off. Neat overlook up there.

Be sure to do the Moosewalk trails north of Silver Bay, very nice trails. Have a great time!

I rode the Moosewalk a few weeks ago and they are fantastic. Is George's Gorge the overlook with a shelter and bathroom? We stopped somewhere along the trail and could look over a cliff with a small stream at the bottom (I know very descriptive for the area).

No, the shelter with the bathroom at the overlook is on the moosewalk. Georges Gorge just runs thru the State Park and it just a neat trail. Shortly after that there is a high point with a good overlook of Lake Superior.

Hey Troy, we were up there last weekend too. Nice to wake up Saturday morn to 17" of powder. We were the first ones out of Finland running North on the NSST at 10:30 am. We rode until we hit a junction with no tracks on it and waited for a couple with long track sleds to break trail. At one point we got behind a big group that got stuck on a big hill, but passed them and were the first group to the Trestle Inn. Then we ran a loop to the Knotted Pine, Wildhurst and back. Nice ride.

Glad you had a good time. Should've let me know you were going to be up. We didn't come up until Saturday night and then just rode Sunday. Didn't run a lot of trails but a bit of the NSST and it was good. Trails in and out of Finland were rough but soft. Thats a nice loop you went on though.
