Northwest wisconsin - most of it

Left Land O, Lakes WI on Sunday morning Jan 24th. Went as far west as Superior and did the Bayfield peninsula. As far south as the Tuscobia trail. Snow conditions were much the same on all the trail systems, with Ashland and Iron County (by Hurley) having a bit more snow. So I would rate the snow a grade of "C". Here are the grooming reports for the trail systems as best as we could report.

WATERSMEET TRAILS: When we started Sunday morning ..Lando to Watersmeet was poor, stutter bumps all the way--Watersmeet to
Marinesco was more of the same. There was at least 2" of new snow on the trail.
On the way back, Trail 2 E was groomed but there were stutter bumps right under the groom, Trail 3 S to Lando was
rough, big moguls dangerous bridges Saturday morning the 30th. Grooming everyday, grinding out the bumps and
grooming at night to let the trails set up would help. Normally our start and finish, normally our worst trails!

GRADE: D+

GOGEBIC AREA TRAILS: Good Grooming! Both ways!! On the way back they had it groomed all the way from Hurley to Marinesco
really nice through the ski hills on 2E

GRADE: A

IRON COUNTY TRAILS: Good ; pecking our way south (I still miss thee ole "Iron Horse" days) it seemed like forever to Ashland trails.

GRADE: B

ASHLAND COUNTY TRAILS: Plenty of snow, little to no grooming! Most trails had been rolled but had huge moguls, the old "grooming
brushing" of your trails at the same time is even worse!

GRADE: D-

BAYFIELD TRAILS: The interior trails were good,, as you got close to the lake, especially Corny, Herbster and Port Wing were
not ready and didn't have enough snow. Tri-county cooridor was groomed, as well as 2W to Superior.

GRADE: C+

DOUGLAS COUNTY: Good; around Superior and S to Washburn County was groomed.

GRADE: B

WASHBURN COUNTY: Fair, passible but not that great

GRADE: C-

CABLE AREA: For the large amount of traffic, good trails, a little snirt and gravel.....Lakewoods was busy, but they are out
working their trails!

GRADE: B

All in all 872 miles. We were supposed to be in the Central and Eastern U.P. but they're not open for business...We took our $6,000.00
trip to NW Wisconsin and had a blast!

We did our trip last week thru Michigan and the food situation worked out for the most part. Tried to incorporate Casinos in the mix as they were open for dining . Usually breakfast and dinner were done in the motel with takeout. Lunch was tougher on the trail but we made it work. We went from Watersmeet to Copper Harbor, Baraga, Munising, Grand Marais, Ishpeming and back to Watersmeet. 950 miles for the week.
I am happy most places are opening tomorrow as it will make things easier. Hope to get back up once in February and again in March.
