Not easy to carve a Suburban

My wife went ditch banging with our Suburb-asuarus today.. Very deep ditch and actually laid it on it's side...Took a very large John Deere farm tractor to get it out.. Glad my youngest and her were fine but visibility and snow drifting was nasty today..Check the snow pack in the tires and around the door handles too.

Glad all are OK. She should contact her insurance agent ASAP. Might not even take a phone call. Remindes me of a friend in So. Ill. who in the 90's was pulling shrubs around his house out with his 4wd pickup with a gerry-rigged tow strap. He had his 5 yr. old son in the truck with him. The strap was a combination of several short chains. As you can guess it took not a straight pull but a back-up and give it a good jerk to get the job done. This worked a few times until one of the chains broke loose from the shrub. The end attached to the truck recoiled toward the truck shattering the back window with part of it continuing over the roof and totaling the hood. His wife, watching this from inside the house came flying out the front door to retrive her 5 yr. old who was unhurt, husband was unhurt from the initial incidenent but not sure of his injuries after going in the house. He turned this claim into his insurance agent. HIMSELF!
I'have got to laugh still today.

Glad they are all o.k. Could have been worse, both to the family and to rig...but you already know that. Plastic is cheap. She could have got you a better birthday present though!!!

I believe it was the snow bank/drift that slightly tore the plastic junk on the front.. We used a real tow strap, the kind they use for tractors with removeable U hooks on the ends.. It sure helped, my old boss, the farmer, refused to use a reg tow strap saying they are to dangerous.. He did it right though..He used the tractor to scrape the road down to pavement, then got a bucket of sand, then hooked me up to get out...THERE IS NO WAY A NORMAL 4WD COULD HAVE GOT ME OUT.. The one tow hook was used to slightly right the vehicle and then get me out...

Here is a tip for ya as a former tire guy. If you drive the vehicle and it starts to vibrated like heck. Take a hammer and knock the snow/ice out of the inside of the rims. Just take a hammer and give the rim on the inside a Whack and usually it all falls right out. We had this all the time after people would ditch there vehicles at the ol tire shop

1st stuck with the burb sweet. Did you get any pics of the stuck? Remember when you bought it and I told you they get stuck in BIG DRIFTS, especially in the driveway when your hauling your new baby home from the hospital, I know. lol. Glad that everyone is ok. What did you use to hook up to the tow hook? Mine are set back into the air dam and are loops, my strap will not fit in to it.

Neighbor put his Suburban in the ditch last year. Starved the lower end for oil and he ended up having a new engine put in.

We used a chain to hook up to it.. It took about 25 yards or so to get it out of the ditch..

lvr1000, we've put a bunch on it so far, about 15K
