Not my day at all...

Waiting for the snow all day long just to see on radar that it is swirling around my area big time without a flake to be seen.<?xml:namespace prefix = o ns = "urn:schemas-microsoft-com:eek:ffice:eek:ffice" />

Then when I get home one of my old faithful friends of the last 13 years (who has been on her last leg for a while now) couldn't even stand up to greet me. After sitting with her for a while and seeing the look in her eye I knew it was time for our last walk. She tried to get up but kept falling on her side, so I waited for the kids to get home so they could give her a hug. Loaded her up in the truck and went to my dad’s farm. She sure did try and walk with me but I just picked her up and carried her to the back of the farm. I don't know what was longer, carrying a 50 lbs dog thru the mud and snow to the back of 60 acres or carrying an empty collar back.....man I need a freaking beer, and snow. But for now I am gunna start with beer. Hopefully by morning there will be snow, and hopefully not to bad of a hangover.

Thanks guys, know what ya mean but that is the way it goes with pets. Ain't the first one and ain't gunna be the last. We have another dog and sure can tell that he misses her. Took the collar home and hung it on my coat hook. When the day comes that it ain't so hard to look at it empty I will fill it again. She came from a litter of 13 dogs. And all of them stayed within about 20 miles of us. (tight farming comunitee) and she has seem all of them over the years. A couple of them weekly. And she outlived all of them by over 2 years anyways so we have seen it coming for a while. She never was in pain but has had a hard time moving around for a month or so and my boy called me at work and said something was really wrong with her. When I got home it appeared that she had a stroke. Couldn't stand, when I did get her up she would fall to the side and when she did stand had a bad lean and couldn't walk at all. I knew the outcome but more importantly she did too. Hard to believe for an animal that can't talk that you can understand exactly what they are telling you, ya know.

Just spent all night looking for a neighbors dog trudging through 3 to 4 miles of swamp in the middle of the night. We live in a rural area and the dog chased a deer with a retractable collar in tow. She was worried that it got wrapped around a tree and may not be able to get free. I am a hunter and tracker and was glad to offer my services. I told her even though it had been three days not to give up for I have seen 80 pound dogs survive much worse. I gave up after I lost the dogs trail in an adjacent neighborhood a mile and a half from the dogs home. I had a hard time sleeping last night thinking there may be a dog out there freezing to death tied to a tree trying to fend off coyotes. This morning she called me and said she woke up and looked out on the deck and there was cookie!!!!

Sorry to hear you lost your buddy. I have NO idea how people can put their own animals to sleep. Never would I be able to do that.

Sorry to hear about your loss.

I agree with you formanek....when I put my first dog down there is no way no how I could ever do that myself. I remember acting tuff saying I could when I was younger, but not now.

Sounds like your dog(s) have a great home though.

Your pal is missing for now, you will see her again.
I truly believe God grants us pets so we can know
a small amount of his love for us. Hug those around you.
