NW Lower Ride

Put on some great miles in the NW lower today, the Blueberry, Cranberry, Starvation Lake all flat and fast, snirty in spots. Fresh groom out of 4 mile, passed another groomer later in day on Cranberry. There was not a lot of base or snow, but no woops or moguls either! These trails will probably not be great after warm up, but are pretty good now and should be until then. Guy I was riding with had some sled trouble so we didn't get past Alba, other riders we talked to said more snow up that way and trails were great as well.

The waitress at The Hideaway said there were 70 people waiting to get a seat last Saturday, FYI.

We have been riding Missaukee Trailblazers (6 east and west, 651 into Lake City), Grand Traverse Area (5, 55) Traverse City/Kalkaska/Fife Lake, and Kalkaska County Sand and Snow (76, 79, 791) Blue Bear, Cranberry, Starvation Lake for the last 3 weeks. Was best 2 weeks ago, but no complaints this last week. Weekday riding has to be great but we have been Sat/Sun rides and still enjoyed and found flat trails, well Blue Bear was a little used up by 12 last Sunday.

In the KCSAS club meeting last night they talked about pursuing a connector from Blue Bear to GTASC which would be great, hope it comes together. Supposedly a no-brainer if sleds only but mixing in ORV use muddies it up because some of the land owners would prefer Sled only due to the damage ORVs can do based on the fact that they ride in the trail, instead of on top of snow on top of the trail...

Man that would be great! Another route to spread traffic out and some good looking real estate to ride through that way. Hope it comes true.
