Just bought a new 2010 Evinrude Etek 150hp Outboard Engine so I have 3 year warranty just starting.

Dealer says I HAVE to use 50 or 100 BRP Marine Etek oil only!!! Also said I HAVE to use BRP gas stabilizer for storeage. He didn't say alternate brand oils would void my warranty just said I have to use BRP oil for Etek outboard to run right same with gas stabilizer.

Evinrude Etek 150hp Outboard Engines are not new technology so what other brand oils have you all been using in your Etek 150hp Outboards?

Thanks in advance.

i have an 08 150 etec, i use the evinrude oil and have not had any problems with it. it is about $50 per gallon, but the motor doesnt use much. never used their fuel stuff, i use sea foam all the time, works great. you will love the motor, even though its a 2 stroke, it can idle all day and not hiccup, starts instantly, and runs like the wind. enjoy it

I've got a 2008 225 and ran nothing but xd-100 and seafoam thru it. I put tons of hours on, the motor will treat you well. Search the net for a better price on oil. Most dealers have it in bulk too, if you walk in with your old jug, they will fill it from the drum much cheaper.

Anybody using anything but BRP Etek 2s oil in Evinrude Etek Outboard Engine? I hate to be locked in to 1 brand of oil because sooner or late I will be someplace & BRP Etek 2s Evinrude Etek oil will not be available. :(

whitedust- Etek is a direct injection motor (like the sleds) so supposedly any regular oil wont do. I know amsoil makes a synthetic DFI outboard oil.

I used marine formula sta-bil in my boat last year and had no problems. I think it helps if you can make your last tank of the year non-ethanol gas too.

Did you end up with the Ranger? I just saw your previous post, Ranger is a very well made boat. Personally, I think overall they are the best. I have a Triton, but have fished out of just about every bass boat made, and fish out of a 522 Ranger a lot. Every brand has its features but all around fishability, ride, and performance Rangers are the best. They also seem to hold resale value a little better than the other brands-especially in this part of the country.

BRP oil is cheaper than pistons and crankshafts anyday! BRP fuel conditioner is very compatable with any rubber parts in their motors ! I wouls at least use their stuff for length of warranty ! .02 worth

Ubee & snodogg yes I bought the 2010 Ranger from Shoeders with the 150 etek. They shot me a Fall closeout price I just could not walk away from & got me off my butt with that price!! I bought the Ranger for all the reasons you mention above & Triton was second choice but all the Tritons were larger than I needed so bought the Ranger 18'5". I would have been happy with Ranger 17'5" w 150 etek but they only had 17'5 w 115 Etek & it was a total dog & handling was like a heavy slug. I was ready to walk wait till next year & they shot me a price $1,000 up on 18'5" w 150 etek compared to 17'5 w 115 Etek just had to make that deal!

Ranger has all the fishing & skiing features figued out right down to the tie downs on the trailer & cover. Owners seem to luv their Rangers & spend huge bucks with computer controlled features to guide boat to the GPS fishing hole. Unreal what some guys will do!! Standard 18.5 should meet my needs so I'm happy.:)

I'll be using non-ethanol gas for sure & BRP 50 for break in then cut over to 100 after break in. I guess I will have to stock up on the 100 & make sure I never run out.

This boat will see many Vilas County lakes & should be fun toy for me.

Ubee & snodogg thanks for the info.

Enjoy your new boat, as far as all this ethanol hype I wouldnt worry about it too much. I've run 87 octane with ethanol in my '01 Yamaha 150 (yamaha actually recommends 87) and haven't had any problems, and trust me I run a lot of gas through it. Like I said though as I make my last fishing trips in the fall I like to make sure my last fill-up of the season is ethanol free. Unless Evinrude recommends premium fuel it's a waste of money.

Only $1000 to upgrade to a 18.5 and a 150? sounds like you got a deal!

Now good luck fishing!

Nice Boat Great Choice ! You will turn alot of heads with that one! My son owns Powersports repair shop and gets alot of fuel related repairs ! 3 things he is seeing, 1, ethonol based fuel has very short shelf life.Mercury service bulletin says 30 days. if you run alot of fuel thru it will cure that! 2, seems to be lots of water in the fuel tanks.condensation? rainwater? just cheap fuel?Lot more problems on four stroke carbs because the orrfices are alot smaller and plug up easily ! best fuel conditioners does'nt help that much ! I have been buying premium non ethanol fuel to combat the problem but probably losing some performance in some engines ! make sure you use premium fuel for storage with good fuel conditioner ! have fun !!

OK , Picked up new boat today & talked to tech. You can have your etek engine programmed to run xd-100 or xd 50. If you program for xd-100 that is the only oil you can use but the engine will use less oil. If you program for xd 50 you can use xd 50 or xd 100 & other oils in pinch but will use a little more oil. I programmed for Xd 50 & will try both xd 50 & xd 100 oils see if I form a preference.

e-tec fuel

I was told to burn 87 octane in the e-tec since higher flash point of higher octane fuels leads to incomplete combustion due to the lower operating temperature of the engine. I have crappy luck with 87 octane/ethanol fuels making green goo in my ski-doo carbs even with the seafoam storage treatment. Dealer claims the "closed fuel system" is similar to that in automobiles and keeps fuel from evaporating and the subsequent formation of "green goo" Good luck with the new boat. I ended up with an inboard vs a new outboard for a lot of the reasons you got your new toy. Price talks, BS walks!!
