just now getting the sleds going - 01 polaris xcsp - I started it a few weeks ago and noticed that some kind of liquid was leaking out of the exhaust, it only leaked after I started it and it was running. I didn't ride it (no snow then) just started it to make sure it was ready to go. The liquid seemed almost like water but was kind of slippery maybe coolant?

I Started it tonight and took for the 1st ride of the season, short ride 1/4 mile and it had lots of excessive exhaust and overheated quickly (temp light)- it seemed to run fine until it overheated. I shut down right away and checked it over - it appeared to have a liquidy oily residue coming from the exhaust, it seemed to be very oily and not clear. suggestions on where/what to check?

First off welcome aboard bigdaddy!
That sounds like a strange one. I would start looking at basics like is the compression good in both cylinders? Is the coolant level up or is it low? You may want to pull the power valves if equipped and clean and inspect inside the jugs. If it runs good after inspection let it warm up and then feel the heat exchangers at the rear and see if coolant is circulating. Could need water pump.
