I have a 99 Yam Vmax 600. After my sled has warmed up and im driving it, the oil light will flicker or sometime just stay on. It is using oil but i dont want to mess anything up. Any help would be great on what to do or how to fix it. It has a full tank of oil.
Thanks Jake

i wouldnt really worry about it the oil light on one of mine goes on and stays on for a while after you start it, i wouldnt depend on it when you can just open the hood and check your self

light only tells you when it is getting low, not like a car, that tells you when the motor is 3 seconds from blowing up. Probably has a short in the wire somwhere, rubbbing on the frame or jackshaft somewhere. The indicator in the tank is just a ground for the light, so it will go on for any ground that it gets.

Same Problem on 2000 SXR

I had the same problem with my 2000 SXR. The oil light would flicker and was worse than cold. I have oil Yamaha that have no light and I have never run one out of oil. It looks like the sending unti is easy to access and replace but I decided to just unplug the light. Follow the wires about the oil tank and unplug the connector. You will never look down at that flashing light again!

The sending unit is bad... Best to replace it after using a tank or two of fuel so the oil level is lower than the rubber plug takes a couple minutes to change its located on the left side of the oil tank...
