Mojo,
I just concluded my first season on a Ski Doo 4 Stroke. It's not the ACE but comparable. Your seasonal mileage is well below the average and one oil change per season should be adequate. Most recommend it in the spring at the end of the season to flush out the impurities and coat the engine with clean oil for the summer months.

To the best of my knowledge, there are two oils to choose from. The Ski Doo Brand and Mobil 1. Both would be Synthetic and 0/40 wt. The Mobil 1 is around $7 per quart right now.

I saw an ACE in the showroom, but none on the trails this past season. It's a quiet engine with really nice mileage at around 60 h.p. That'd be comparable to a 440 to 500 cc 2 Stroke for performance, just a bit heavier and with a longer lifespan.

It's about 10 bucks for the filter on a $8500 machine. Personally, I would change the filter too as there will be residuals left behind with the old filter.

Also, if you're riding a new engine there will be some metal filings from the break-in period. It'd be best to get rid of that with a complete change.

Just my 2 cents, have fun with the ACE.

could the 1st one be done at the end of the season,or sooner?

Just my .02 but say if you bought and rode the sled for a season total of 700 miles, I'd change the oil & oil filter around the half-way point, especially on a break-in of a new engine.

Then as Gary mentions, do a oil & filter change at the end of the season so it has clean oil while stored and you're ready to go next winter!

Oil and a filter are relatively cheap to take care of your investment.

I'd also recommend to change the chaincase oil at the end of each riding season.

A question for Gary, on your 1200, what numbers were you seeing for fuel mileage?
