Ojibway Correctional Facility

I have been following the reports of the State of Michigan closing the Ojibway Correctional Facility, which is located in Marensico. It looks like it employees 203 individuals, which have an option to relocate to other facilities according to one article. While I do not know the specifics I would assume this will have a massive impact on the local and regional economy. Additionally (and not to diminish the impacts of the local schools, businesses, housing, etc) I wonder what type of impact this could have on the local snowmobile clubs and snowmobile industry in the area with regards to maintaining trails, volunteers, business support, etc.... It doesn't sound like a good outcome. The Hoop and Hollar have been posting some info regarding this also.

It's never good to lose that many people at once, tough situation. Unfortunately I doubt there is enough work up there to absorb this many people who will be looking for a job.
Hopefully some can follow the work so that will minimize the local impact.
I'm guilty of not coming up and doing a fall cleanup and that will change. What I can do is continue to support everyone that I can when I go up. I try to spread the love everywhere and will continue to do so as long as I have a pulse!

I wonder where all the fine guests that call this facility home will be relocated to ? And if they are being consulted with as to their needs and comfort pending any move or transfer.

That's not good, but look on the bright side, this place has secure snowmobile parking, tons of beds with your own bathroom, and I'm guessing a pretty good rec room. We just need to get the trail signs up and name it. like the bunk house or best place by a jail site, or Silver Sands 2.0.

That might be pretty cool, but since the government is calling the shots, they will probably knock it down rather than sell it. It's just tax dollars; they don't GAF.
