We are preparing trails as we speak...we need more cold weather to freeze up the swamps/wet areas, and get more solid ice on the lakes...thankfully the heavy snow missed us both times, so with the brutal cold headed our way this weekend, we should build solid ice....the last two storms missed us to the south, the Thanksgiving storm went north of us...the heavy snow from that system was in a line from Lac du flambeau to Boulder Jct to Conover...the further north you go the heavier the snow gets (some locations in the Yoop had 40 inches plus).... its weird because Minocqua had 5 inches, but just 14 miles west north west of Minocqua, in lac du flambeau (my mothers house ) had 13 inches....as I mentioned this last system went south we received 2 1/4 inches in Nokomis (plus one inch of fluff Monday into Tuesday)...in total I have a little over 8 inches in my yard...so it's a much better start this year, than the previous two years....As I mentioned we are making ice on the lakes, as of today guys are reporting an average 4 to 6 inches of ice on area lakes, and they are out and ice fishing Nokomis on the bays. I would NOT run a 4 wheeler or sled out there yet...but we are getting there with the afore mentioned brutal cold coming our way for weekend.
Also wanted to update you on Oneida County...we now have a North and South Zone ..Here's how it will work:
The goal is still for the county to open as a whole, but just the northern or southern half of trails in the county could open depending on how clubs vote.
The two zones are separated by Corridor 12 which runs east to west across the whole county.
To open up all the trails in the county, 7 out of the 10 members of the council need to vote yes. If there are less than seven yes votes, the votes will be tallied by zones.
• The northern zone will only open if at least 5 of 8 votes are affirmative (Northern Trails Unlimited & Northwest Passage are excluded from the northern zone poll).
• The southern zone will only open if at least 6 of 9 votes are affirmative (Bo-Boen is excluded from the southern zone poll).
I will post a map of this once it's published....
Do your SNOW Dances...we are off to a good start, hopefully it continues!!!!!
