Of course our trails are NOT open yet...just wanted to update you on what's going on....We are making ice...Nokomis is mostly froze over, and guys have been ice fishing in the bays for well over a week now...they are reporting 3-4 inches of ice, and it's going to remain cold the next couple of days....so we should keep building ice....However...it's going to warm up for the weekend, with a potential for rain on Sunday into Monday....let's hope they are wrong...so far they've been wrong and for once in our favor...our little dusting to an inch of snow forecast for Tuesday into Wednesday, turned in to 3-5 inches across the Northwoods...(more to the north less to the south)..it was great to see especially after last winter....it's certainly a much more promising start to the season...we'll have to keep our fingers crossed. No idea when trails will open here...we need the swamps/wet areas to freeze up, and more lakes to start building ice...I know Minocqua was still open as of Sunday (looked like it froze up a bit more yesterday)...and I drove by the Flambeau Chain, and ALL the big lakes were wide open....so we need more cold weather....we'll see where we are in the next couple of weeks...my personal opinion is that I highly doubt any of the trails here will be open before new years (that's sort of how it's gone the last several years)...but stranger things have happened

UPDATE....lots of melting the last 3 days (UGH).....lakes look terrible... fisherman are still reporting 2-4 inches of ice...if we can make it through today without a lot more melting we should be ok....but the snow in my yard went of 5 inches down to less than 2 as of 8 am this morning....Thankfully we have a cold snap coming, which should freeze everything back up...we'll see where we are the end of the week....but as of right now things not looking great with no BIG snow's in our forecast

update 12-11-24...got some more snow 1-2 inches of fluff over night, and it's been snowing on and off all day...ground that was bare is now white again....very nice scenery with the snow today...but winds are starting to pick up, and we are expecting some bitter wind chills through tomorrow...gonna make some more ice today, and tomorrow...which is good....watching a system for the weekend...maybe some snow? (it's another one that if it tracks one way it's all rain, if it tracks another it's all snow)....they can't get a handle on it at this point, but it bares watching

12-12-24...COLD!!! 15 below zero this morning (windchills 30 to 40 below at times)....going to slowly warm up through the weekend...with a slight chance for snow Saturday .....they have really backed off on this, from 3 to 4 inches to an inch or so, and only a 30 percent chance at this time...still calling for a rain snow mix Monday, before it changes over to all snow, but only expecting an inch or less....temps moderate a bit next week, back to what is considered more normal for this time of the year...we are certainly making ice, and looking far better in that aspect than we were last year at this time......however there is little to NO snow in the long range forecast (next 10 days)....it's certainly making me nervous about when we can or will be opening trails, here in Oneida county...snow is marginal at best (1 to 4 inches on ground depending where you are located, as usual more to the north, less to the south)....What we need is a good old fashioned Christmas Blizzard....a nice 8 to 12 inches would really do wonders. Like the rest of the clubs here, we are just waiting for safe ice, and rideable snow....looks like it might be awhile :(
