Oneida / Villas County Opener ?

Clubs are panning and county inspections are ongoing this week. From what I saw today many trails are panned and probably 7 “ in Vilas. I’m thinking trails will open next week in Vilas with a ride at your own risk warning since low snow conditions. No idea about Oneida less snow south. Johns forecast not showing any system snow in the next 10 days or so. To me no big rush right now since marginal conditions but I live here and can wait for much better conditions.

Vilas county trail inspections will be complete on Tuesday so probably will open no later than next Friday. BUT unless we get more snow conditions will be poor. Thanks go out to all the clubs for their trail preparations.

Vilas County Alliance voted to keep trails closed and wait a week for more snow and cold and reevaluate an opening date on December 19th.

With the warm weather predicted for this weekend that is a good idea. The trails are going to take a hit and it would be worse if people are out tearing up the trails.

Unfortunately local forecasters are in hardcore El Niño mode and don’t see any cold weather well into January. Nothing we can do but wait for a pattern change but not looking good for December. ):

Yup, nothing but mid-30's for the next week.
I just canceled by ride for this Sunday to Munising with Harvest, gonna be sloppy and poor conditions.
We are just gonna have to wait..sad to say, but looking like a epic fail again.

Yep I too cancelled 3 ride dates. Maybe January will be better but I’m not getting forecast encouragement from local weather people. Imo lakes in Vilas should be rideable but that’s about it. If El Niño doesn’t loosen it’s grip it could be an epic fail.

I ain't buying **** until I put at least 1,200 miles on this sled, whether it is December or January. Been saving vacation and have 180 hours so bring on the snow!

Did you see John's 11-16 forecast??

Still a ways out but he thinks pattern will turn by mid next week. I really hope he is right as I plan on being in the UP 12/26!!

Positive thoughts all and snow dances, quit talking about this El Nino crap:)

Yes, my mind changes frequently.
I have two jobs and a Wife that move me silly. Plus I am Koo Koo too.

We will have to meet this winter for sure, maybe with P.D. and Harvest.

I respond to science and the facts are El Niño is here and maybe here for quite awhile. It SUCKS but that’s why we are warm now and Canadian cold is locked up around Hudson Bay which is way north of the UP and northern WI. We need a pattern change and that’s not a sure thing yet if at all. Probability is low for about 15 days for sustained cold and snow. Maybe we will get more winter like but facts are El Niño pattern has set up.

Sounds like a good idea fuji!!! My riding bud is having knee surgery. But it all takes snow!!! I have been hoping for years to be able to hang out in western Wisy, but no dice. whitedust doesn't have anything I like hearing here. Need to go back to the weed thread.

The Climate Prediction Center is agreeing with John. Showing a pattern change and temps more winter like.

After last weeks thaw the snow is iceberg snow useless for snowmobiling can’t be groomed not deep enough to cut and groom. Roaded trails if still snow covered are hardpack ice no lube. Vilas needs fresh snow to upgrade to poor. Lol. Really not looking very good at all right now. Very disappointing to say the least.
