Lots of questions about when the ORV trails officially open here in the Western Upper Peninsula of Michigan. Here's the story for the MI-TRALE system covering Houghton,Baraga,Ontonagon, Gogebic and Iron counties........There are a few seasonal restrictions, so you'll need to do your homework if you want to ride before May16.

Here is a list of things you’ll need to know

Most snowmobiles trails are NOT OPEN TO ORV’s, so you'll need to know where you are riding. If it's not signed for ORV's don't ride on it

There are approved highway right of way’s (ROW) on state & US highways that connect some of the trails & routes (LL, ES, P, NR, MW) they do not open until May 1

In the Ottawa National forest all routes with a seasonal designation are open from May 16th through March 14th annually unless otherwise listed in a Special Vehicle Designation Table.
Several of our trails (LL, P, OC, MW) or portions of them fall under this restriction
Use the link below to locate the areas and learn more.

DNR Designated Routes BN, IM, SB, OR do not have Ottawa National Forest restrictions. They are open April 1st.

County road routes are normally open and have no seasonal restrictions. You are encouraged to verify the current restrictions for the county you are riding

Thank you for the information.

However ATV/ORV rules and regulations are to screwed up to try and figure out where you can or can not be.

There must be a an easier way.
