Since November of 2005 Mi-TRALE has been working on OHV Connector Trails in the Ottawa, including one from Iron River north to Sidnaw. After the Ottawa NF Supervisor approved in 2 years ago, it was appealed by a LESS then 5 people...and the Eastern USFS in Milwaukee upheld the appeal.
Then we went through the whole process again, attended all the meetings, even coordinated meetings with the few people that opposed the trails the first time, and again the Ottawa NF Supervisor APPROVED the Connector Trails.
Once again it was appealed, by only a couple people and once again the Eastern USFS in Milwaukee upheld the appeal.
Now we're back to square one AGAIN!
So NO, we do not have a LEGAL OHV Trail from Iron River to Sidnaw. One of the points the Anti OHV Group made is ATV Riders riding on trails in the Ottawa that is NOT OPEN.
So when you simply go out and ride these forest roads, many of which are not open, you're hurting our sport and hurting all of us in Mi-TRALE.
FR 2200 that goes from Sidnaw north toward the Baraga Plains was NEVER approved for OHV use. That road and a trail to Presque Isle, WI were the only two OHV Connector Trails that were never approved. That doesn't mean we are not continuing to look for other trails.
But first we just have to get the 100+ miles of OHV Connector Trails that the Ottawa did approve back on the 'drawing board.'
One fear we have is that one of these times the Ottawa is simply not going to go through the entire process all over again.
We hope that doesn't happen, and I hope that many of us in Mi-TRALE won't give up the fight.
