I am posting about an exciting adventure we believe God is calling our family to be apart of this summer. On July 18-22, 2012, we will be joining a short-term mission team from NewDay Church headed to Ontonagon, Michigan. Ontonagon is a community of approximately one thousand people located in the Upper Peninsula of Michigan. The community has been deeply affected by economic changes. Our team will participate in multiple service projects and partner with local churches in Ontonagon to host community wide worship services. We believe this trip will not only offer hope but also have a major impact on the lives of the individuals we touch. Perhaps a touch of hope is what we can bring!
Part of our responsibility in joining the team is to find prayer partners who will pray daily for us before and during the trip. We also need financial partners. Our family needs to raise $920.00 to cover transportation, housing, and ministry costs but our goal is to raise $1,500.00 to make additional funds available for service projects such as painting and repair work plus to put on a great music event at the Ontonagon Marina on 20th and 21st in the evening. We are asking you to be part of our personal prayer and financial team.
Please pray and ask the Lord if you are to join with us in this way. If the Lord says “Yes,” please fill out the enclosed support response card. (See attached postings) You may include a support check if you wish. All checks should be payable to “NewDay Church.”and sent to New Day Church,1201 1st Street Northeast New Prague, MN 56071 Do not write our names on the check so your donation will be tax deductible. Return the response card and any donation in the enclosed envelope. Place our prayer card in a visible place and start to pray for God’s hand on this important mission trip. Thank you!
Blessings!

We have 35 people on this trip. All funds will go to help all people pay for this trip PLUS pay for all the AWESOME things we can do for the area! I hope this post is found to be appropriate. Please accept my apology if it is not. Thanks!

Awesome! Yes that area is hurting, looked like a ghost town the last time we were there! Missions are very important and yes church's have real expenses. I may try to plan a camping trip that weekend to help. I will try to donate to this worthy cause as well.

I am glad to see "your group" has decided to keep your help in the "states". I hate seeing/hearing about "groups" similar to yours that plan similar trips for over seas. Do other countries need help............absolutley......but lets make sure "our people" on our home land are taken care of first.

Sorry to get a little off topic

thanks for doing this

Lenny,
Daryl here! We've actually got housing all figured out. Staying at the AG church and Northwoods. You are such a generous person! Thank you for the offer!!! One of the projects we are doing is ripping up the carpet at the Ontonagon Youth Center (Heritage House) and painting the floor. The carpet is glued down currently. Any ideas for us on removing that glue prior to paint? Perhaps a floor burnisher or maybe a solvent? Any guidance would be helpful. FYI our good friend Joel L is coming too.

Thank you to all others for offerings of prayer and support also! That is cool!

Dayrl, nice hearing from you buddy! You are "THE" man. Removing adhesive form a floor,,,sheshhhhhh, no fun!! I would think a solvent would be a nasty mess, sanding will just load up the paper,,,I am not sure what the best plan for that is. I'll ask around and see what info I can get. Probably the glue will be brittle and scraping will be the best bet especially with a proper tool which I do not know what that tool would be. There are power scrappers but I have little experience with them.

Dayrl, when we remove old carpet that is glued down the guys just take some floor scrapers and go at it. Normally they use long handled ones with blades that can be changed out and are about 8 to 10" wide. Sometimes they use an angle grinder to put a little sharper edge on them, but not always. I bought one at Lowes for about $20 a year or two ago for myself. Just be sure to wear some gloves or your group will be getting blisters for sure. Hope you have a great trip and you gain and grow as much as a church as you give to others through your ministry!

Brad this will be awesome! The best support you could give us is your prayers and secondly we could sure use a little cash. We are purchasing all of our paint, paint supplies, landscaping supplies etc. etc. etc. locally in Ontonagon. The more we can raise the more we can do. One of the cool projects we are doing is rebuilding a basketball court at the youth center in town. One of the backboards is broke, the pavement needs sealcoating and we'd like to paint real basketball court lines on it, plus restore the sand volleyball court there too. It's currently under a few years of weeds. Small things that bring hope and encouragement. Our giving info is listed above in the first post if you are led to do that! Thanks!

I've done lots of asking around........scraping is the way to go I guess. We may be needing to round up a few ice scrapers that folks won't mind if we put a nice sharp edge on them. Good ol elbow grease! Hopefully you can make it over for our concerts at the marina on the 20th and 21st. Should be a rocking good time and an even better message!
