Over Heating

03 800 SKS over heating pretty sure water pump. What can I expect to replace?

Just curious? why do you think its the water pump? I only ask because its not a common part to be replaced? they have a crank drivin hard plastic impeller that almost never fails? Did it just start over heating? Any chance there is air in the system? i will tell you my exp. with those sleds has been that there cooling system is just barely big enough.(ie they dont like bare ice and hard pack) This may sound stupid but did you just recently cut or put a shorter snow flap on? did you check the thermostat? Anyway to answer your question, there is the impellor, housing gasket and the seal behind the impeller. other than that you would have to tear the crank apart.

We were out riding and we just got done doing some boondocking pulled back on to seasonal road and stop for a break 5 - 10 mins, started up road for about 1 min and light came on over heating lost some fluid out of cap let it cool down added more fluid. Burpped air from system following manual instruction, still over heated.

if its burping fluid its most likly NOT the pump. when you run id crack ther bleed screw does it pump coolant out? If so the pump is working

Pulled thermostat was wide open cooled it down and it closed. Nothing pumping out of bleed screw.

water pump belt

if the cable for the oil pump goes to the frount of the recoil then there is a water pump belt under the recoil it also turns the oil pump

I'm in agreement on this one. Water pumps almost never go before some of the trivial things. If you lost some coolant there is a good chance that you have an air bubble in the head that is having a hard time releasing. I believe that when these sleds came out the factory even had a SB to the dealers on "burping" the cooing system. If you are sure there are no leaks (bad clamp/hose, heat xchanger hole, etc...) run the motor till it gets up to temp without the coolant cap on. Forgive me if I'm off base on this motor but I beleive it has the temp sensor right on top of the head... take it out slowy and see if you have air coming out with the coolant. Have your buddy put his finger over the hole and you put some new teflon tape on the sensor and rethread it back into the head. Even if all of the air was out of the system with the exception of the air near/on the sensor, You will have the temp light coming on (the air will turn into steam and throw the sensor off).. Be patient while "burping" It's not as quick as burping after slamming a beer!!!

Does that mean you don't want to sell it? I sold my 2008 M8 and would like to have another 03 sks back....... Good luck bud! The belt was my first Idea as well..... : )

Not very far. It shuts down soon as the light comes on. Still had to run it to load and unload on the trailer.
