Parents and Out West

I was riding with my folks this weekend and my mom stated that she would like to tour Yellowstone on a sled or go out west somewhere.

They've done a lot for me so I thought I woudl buy them a trip for next year so I need some suggestions. Here's the background info:

1. Mom is 67 and dad is 68. Both in better shape then I am and have been sledding their whole lives.
2. They would need to rent sleds as their's are older and not mountain sleds.
3. Stricltly trail riding.
4. I would like something all inclusive. They are not fancy people though. Mom doesn't drink and dad may have a mixer or 2 a month. Non smokers. Minimal breakfast, a sandwich/snacks for lunch and a nice dinner would be great. They would even do breakfast and lunch on their own as that is how it's been their whole lives on vacation.
5. Knowing them they would probably drive out.
6. I don't think that they would need a guide as dad is very "outdoorsy", is good with directions and has taken an avalanche course for some hunting he's done out in MT.

Where would be a good place to start or if you have any additional questions or ideas please feel free to shoot them my way.

Thanks in advance.

riding out west

Check out the option of sending them and their sleds on the MomsMotorSports.Com transportation rig. For $375 per person, we transport you, your sled, gear, tools, and travel goods to premier western destinations. They could enjoy the comforts of their own sleds on the trails and even rent for a day or two if they want and still save on the overall cost of renting everyday.

Most of our trips are all inclusive with breakfast, dinner, lodging and transportation included, there are no worries. This season the price for these all inclusive packages is $750. So you could send them both for $1500. Everything would be covered except their gas, oil, and snacks for lunch.

They may even like the guided rental tours offered at Togwotee or Ten Mile Inn as a relaxer for the day the rent sleds.

I would recommend Togwotee, Ten Mile Inn, or Island Park as riding areas for their style. Do not send them to Cooke City. There are 600+miles of trail at each of the first 3 locations.

Each season we have a group of people we take to different locations they are the MichianaTrailRidersCoalition. The group is comprised of people that match your parents age, it would be a perfect trip to team them up on.

You had it in the first sentence, Yellowstone. Trail riding, no worries, the only problem is that they would have to have a guide. I have been riding out west for the past 10 years, and I know that I would not feel comfortable letting my mom and dad ride out here by themselvs.

Thanks a lot guys. jmom800X - quick question. Do you offer off roading packages in the summer? Didn't find it on the site and the wife wants to know.

Thanks again.

summer trips

We do offer summer trips. The winter is our specialty but, we are starting to expand to summer activities per requests from groups. This season polarisrider1 has assembled a group of bikers to load up and head to Sturgis. We have taken quads to West Viginia for group in the past. We have also had inquires about sand dune trips this season to Glamis, CA and Killpecker, WY.

We are game for taking a group any where for motor sports or vacation trips.

take them to west yellowstone mt. that is where all the tours through the park leave from. this town lives off sledders in the winter, that is the number 1 source of $ for them. every one wants you to be there having fun. plus out side the park they have one of the largest trail systems in the western us. with trails being groomed daily. if mom wants to go to the park you will have to rent sleds and have a guide. for an all inclusive type trip check out three bear lodge, the are probably one of the biggest resorts operating in the winter.

I agree with RXL - Yellowstone. Accommodations for any type of lodging and any type of rider can be happy. Will need to rent a sled (4 stroke and licensed) to go into Yellowstone and they require a guide. But it's worth it and makes a great leisurely day. Trail riding outside West Yellowstone takes you into Idaho and the trails are very well marked, maps are good and it's easy to get around. Many great scenic spots outside the park that don't require a guide.

Keep in mind that West Yellowstone is in Montana, the Park is in Wyoming, and much of the trail riding is in Idaho. Rentals have all those stickers and if you bring your own sled you'll have to get the stickers and rent a sled for the park anyway. Makes renting out there a lot more attractive.

Fly into Bozeman and most of the motels will shuttle you down.
