Passenger grip problem

I have a '99 Yamaha Venture and the passenger grips do not heat up very much anymore. I can feel only slight warmth from either grip with the switch in the High position. I am leaning towards replacing the 3-way toggle switch (High-Off-Low) because it will not stay in the low position but slips back to the middle/Off position. It does seem to click normally into High tho but even in that position it does not get very warm. Can I replace the toggle switch with most any 3-way that I might find at an auto parts store or what voltages am I looking to duplicate if so? Any other ideas out there about the issue beyond the switch - short of whole new grips. Thanks in advance.

Any 3 way switch made for 12 volt systems should be fine. Try to find a weather-proof one though. Thats a good place to start, if you cen, verify that there is 12 volts getting to the grips. One of the 3 wires will be common, one high heat winding and the other low heat winding. If both grips are about the same for temp, than I would suspect the switch or a wire problem common to both.
