It is with great regret to let everyone know that Don Withrow co/owner with his wife Nancey, of the adventure motel in mass city passed away January 29, at the age of 84, I would’ve let everyone known sooner but I just found out about it today, he was a great guy who had wonderful stories and will be surely missed, does anybody else have any stories about Don?

Don and Nancy story -
I think they lived in IL 50 years ago, Don loaded up the van or the truck and moved to Beverly! Hills that is! No he moved to the UP told Nancy to come up if she wanted to - Nancy said "see ya!" with no intention of moving but eventually joined him. They both had different versions of the story over they years, great couple, Nancy showed my wife how to make "UP potatoes" my wife still makes them that way, very fun and nice people

Here is the address for anyone that would like to send Nancey a card:
Adventure Motel
Attn: Nancy Withrow
1372 M-26, PO Box 91
Mass City, MI 49948

I am sending one to her today in today’s mail

I have an interesting story about Don, quite a few years ago, we were coming in for breakfast and on the wall they had a picture of a huge grizzly bear that one of his relatives had hunted, this thing was huge!! It was so huge the paws and claws were the size of my head!! well I’m looking at that picture and Don says “pretty big bear isn’t it” I said “yeah” then he says. “I shot that bugger in the backyard” and I looked at Nancey and Nancey looked at me and then she said “don’t you believe that, he didn’t do no such thing”

So very sorry to hear this! Loved staying at the Adventure with Don & Nancy! Like most people, we enjoyed chatting with them each morning during breakfast. One morning after a huge snow, Don was walking towards the mailbox. My 15 year old son offered to run his outgoing mail to the box for him- when he got there, he had to use his hands to shovel several inches of snow away from the mailbox door so that he could put the mail into the box!

They spoke fondly of their family. Our sincere condolences to Nancy & the entire family.
