Personal Financial/Budgeting Software

Here's something for the off-season...what personal financial/budgeting software do you use, if any? I'm an accountant, and I just use Excel, but I'm looking for something to streamline the task...

For many years I have used Moneycounts from Parsons Technology, it was nice and simply but that program has gone by the wayside. I'm now learning Quicken which is lightyears above what I previously used so it has been a step learning curve. One of the neat things is you can download banks/credit card transactions to speed up data entry. I put off the move to Quicken for a long time since I had so much history in Moneycounts that does me no good since I could not import it. Since I'm so new at it there is not much I can say about it but it a pretty popular and well used software.

Just a spreadsheet for me (personal). Formerly Microsoft Excel (MS Office Professional 2003) but for the last several years I've been using Oracle's OpenOffice calc spreadsheet instead (it's a freebie!)

I have used Quicken some years ago, but found it rather painfully tedious. I find a spreadsheet much more efficient, easier to use, and with much more "number crunching" capabilities. (Of course I can practically do spreadsheets in my sleep!)

I have found quickbooks pro is over complicating matters. Pro 2005 is way better than pro 2011. It's like they feel you need more junk to slow things up each year so they can sell you the latest greatest and to make money on an old stand by. Kinda like sleds.. um.

I think I'm going to try Quicken as I have clients that use Quickbooks and it seems fairly simple. I agree that the older versions of Quickbooks were more "intuitive" to use, to steal their brand name. I'm mainly looking for something to ease the data input and organization process, as I'll probably still download the data to Excel for any analysis. I'm not too concerned about daily tracking of investments, etc. and am more concerned with tracking where the money went.

Boy, you are so right on that! Are you stuck in the Intuit payroll rut? I do my own payroll using Quickbooks, but Intuit forces me to upgrade every 3 years. All they do is re-scramble the menus and add more crap to the software!
