Pictured Rocks camping

Any recommendations for what campgrounds to use during a weeks vacation along the Pictured Rocks shoreline? We tent camp and usually spend two nights at one and then move on to another and maybe spend night at a hotel in between. Thanks

12 mile is by far the best there. Lots of beach to yourself but first come first serve on those and no reservations as far as i know.

We use Otter Lake Campground. Zeek is contact there. Very kid friendly. We like the new showers for the kids at end of day running and etc. Its in Hiwatha Forest area and we run H58 along lakeshore to go see Pictured Rocks area.

Twelvemile Beach or Hurricane River are both nice if you want to be right in PRNL. Not too far to the south are the state forest campgrounds of the Gemini Lakes, Ross Lake & Cusino Lake... we used to like Cusino because it's a little more remote and only has like six sites... quiet.
East of Grand Marais about 20 mi. is Muskollange Lake State Park... also used to enjoy that quite a bit. Muskollange Lk is an inland lake and Lake Superior is right across the road.

Would really like to check this area out next summer. As far as the first come first serve goes ... how fast does it fill up? and what would be a good day to go to get a site? Long ways to go to get there and not have a site. Looks like a must see though.

We got there mid-week last summer and there where open spots mid morning. I would get there in morning and see what is open or who is leaving based upon date on there site pole. The place is great except for the flies. We set up our tent on a sand dune bluff overlooking the lake. The lake side spots are high demand.

If all those are full, there's a nice campground on the east side Of Munising/Wetmore.
Short ride to Picture Rocks and area.
