The AirVenture occurs this week in Oshkosh, Wisconsin. Here's ten pictures of one of the Warbirds featured at the fly-in. This is one of the B17's built by Boeing, nicknamed the Flying Fortress. She was built in May of 1945 and is in excellent condition. She visits many airshows throughout the U.S. during the year but her home is in Oshkosh and these photos are from her temporary base at Appleton's Regional airport during the show. The pics are in sequence, starting with the pre-flight inspection and concluding with the taxi out for take off. These threads will hold 5 photos each, thus posts #1 and #2.
Enjoy the pictures!

Any WWII veterans there? I used to go to WWII airshows back east and met Tibbets and Van Kirk from the Enola Gay.

Many Vets are there.

They have an Honor Flight for tomorrow, Wednesday. Around 70 WWII Navy Vets are flying to DC to visit the Mall and then back home by tomorrow night. They had one veteran on the local news tonight that was near 90 but still sharp and able to get around. He flew Corsairs in the Pacific and he'll be on that Honor Flight tomorrow.

BTW, if you would like more info on the pictured B17 in this thread, here's a link to it's page on Wikipedia. Lots of good stuff!

Great to see those old bird's taken care of. Looks like they were firing it up while you were there, Love It! We got to go to the show at Willow run this weekend, it was Outstanding!!!!!
B1 fly-by, Stealth Bomber fly-by, WWII battle re-enactment with tanks, jeeps, troops, machine guns, cannons, the flame thrower was realy cool.
Corsairs in dogfights with Zeros, Mig vs A4, Jack Roushs P51 Mustangs, the V-22 Osprey demonstration, C131s all kinds of stuff plus the static display's.
Then we got the Blue Angel treatment..... Unbeleivable!!!!!! Some of the moves, the planes were 18" apart from wingtip to fuselage, What a show!

I really wanted to make this show this week but my work schedule wouldn't allow. I couldn't last year because of my wedding. I'm gonna do my best for next year.

About a year ago my grandfather who just turned 90 last week and my father went on the honor flight out of Midway. We met them at the airport when they returned and I can say it was one of the most moving things I have ever seen in my life. My Grandpa did not want to go but now is glad he did. If you have a WWII vet in your family do what you can to get them on this. IT'S AN AMAZING EXPERIENCE.

It's neat to see these old bombers still flying. During the war, my mom, aunt and grandmother temporarily moved to Seattle to help build B17's and then later B29's. Mom was just 16 at the time. A couple years back, I think this particular B17 was at the local airport in Owatonna and my brother took her out there to see it up close.

I'm 47 years old and have been to Oshkosh at least 35 times. Heck, it was our summer vacation when we were kids......now I take my kids there.
