TWIN LAKES-Dec. 7th. Please go to www.msasnow.org, click on our thumbtack for our grooming area Greenland, Mass City, Twin Lakes to read today's entry. With the weather out there, if someone lost, accident, downed tree or any information try to give good direction to those going out to help the situation. Last night we had an incident of lone snowmobiler, stuck off trail, guess was 3 miles out, it was dark, hard to see and ended up 19 miles. Location information is very important. THANKS

Good info. Unfortunately its easy to get turned around and lose track of distance on the trail. A few years ago we called 911 for a rider who crashed and couldn't move. When we told the dispatcher where we "thought" we were, the GPS on our phone told her we were four miles further east. We called on a second phone to confirm the correct location.

Team Elkhorn:Thank you for sharing that info to others. We quite often tell people whether snowmobile trails or roads that GPS quite often get the info incorrect-also MapQuest. Satellites sometimes even pickup snowmobile trails as a road because to the satellite it looks like a road. Many people have followed that info and end up needing to get pulled out from getting stuck on a trail.

Cuzzinolaf: Thank You-I was so into what I wanted to say I forgot about the clicking on "trail reports" on the first screen. Good thing I've got you guys watching out for me. After all, I am the UPmom. : > )

This is very good point as my buddy's brother was involved in an accident on Dec 28 about 7 miles South of Rockland right after you get off of Victoria Dam Road and back on Trail 13. When I called 911 on my ATT phone they said they could only track me within 10 miles, by the time rode back down to find a road name, my buddy had called from his Version phone and was able to be tracked within 100 yards. I just had to wait for the ambulance then and ride the medics in. Been riding since 1984 and had never been involved in incident where we need to call for help.

Link on Bergland Bay Bar site about it .
