plugging in electric visor w/electric start

bought a 96 AC Puma for the kids. It has electric start. I want to hook up an electric shield outlet on the sled and was wondering if I can wire direct to the positive/negative terminals on the battery or is there a better option or issues with voltage? I have installed many on non-battery sleds, and I'm not an electrician by any means so wanted to check before I do a no-no??? Any suggestion on where a good place to tie in on the sled if I can't do direct to the battery? Thanks.

I go right to the battery and have an inline fuse (3-5 amp is plenty) to protect the circuit.
