can you change the clutch side jack shaft bearing without taking chain case side apart?

I dont think so, i think the bearing is pressed onto the driveshaft, so you would have to remove the driveshaft from the sled, to do this you would have to take the chain case cover off and remove the bottom gear and chain so you could slide the driveshaft out.

hope this helps

i mean the jack shaft, the secondary is connected to it

sorry about that, I got them mixed up.

it all depends, some of the jackshaft bearings are pressed on and some have a screw lock, just depends on what style yours has, if it has a set screw, you could just slide it off, if its a press on one, you will more than likely have to take the whole shaft out. hope this helps

2 years ago I had to change mine, 2003 edge 800 XC SP , Yes you have to take all apart take a good look at the end of the shaft, I had to replace the drive shaft as well. Use good quality grease and don't forget to lube that fitting ever 500 miles, fill until the grease can be felt on the back side of the plate. Took 2 weeks to order the get the drive shaft . Lots of thime to go over the whole sled.

It depends on the year of the sled. On my 2004 Super sport the bearing is held in a holder that bolts to the frame. The bearing should just slide off the shaft.

If the bearing is not seized on the shaft you should be able to replace it without pulling the shaft. Be careful though since the bearing on the other end in the chain case is pressed in and in a fixed position. You can be damaged it if the shaft is allowed to move too much. In the end it may be easier to pull the chain case and pull the shaft out to replace this bearing.
