I got about 100 miles on a totally rebuild eng.
I keeped seeing coolet on top of the head on
the nuts, so I put a new head gasket in
I just took it down the road and seemed to run
OK, Than next time I started it and it would bog
out a little and it got really bad. I had to choke
just to get it to move. So I cleaned the carbs and
replaced the gas lines cause they seemed a little
loose like air was leaking in. So I started it up and
did the same thing. Its like its starving for gas.
?????? Thanks, Tim

Assuming carbs are clean and have all the right jets and settings/adjustments first, It may not be starving for gas so much as "its getting to much air" i would check for air leaks in the motor. Start with the crank seals and base gasket area. If you dont have a leakdown tester one of the old school tricks is to use starting fluid or carb and choke cleaner and spray it around the seals and gasket while its running, if the engine gains rpm while you do that, you just found your air leak. Your on the right track, if choking it makes it better than you have a lean condition.

indy 500

I fix the 500 today. I took apart my carbs and clean them good this time.
Went to put the slides back in the carb and seen one had the plates was
loose. The one that holds down the needle with the clip and the spring that
holds it down. WOW that was a easy fix. LOL
