My son slid into a tree a few weeks ago when we did have snow (he's fine luckily) but the sled took a hit on the left side, mainly the spindle/trailing arm and the foot well area of the belly pan took the hits. In doing so the aluminum hood guide was pushed into the drive clutch and caused the face plate of the primary clutch to "gouge" into the inside of the aluminum trim piece thus stopping the engine. The clutch itself works fine and shifts as it should but there is a little bit of deformation on the clutch cover right on the outside of the bolts where the aluminum casting is the thinnest . One very small piece broke off and 2 other pieces may need to be ground out to be able to get the cover off for service. My local Polaris dealer (who has been selling/servicing Polaris and Arctic Cat sleds & ATV's for many years) said that the clutch will be fine and that little bit of weight that has broke off or will need to come off will not cause any imbalance problems. He claims that the factory weights are not perfectly matched as it is. I know these are balanced as a whole unit and don't want to cause any future engine problems.
If anyone has had experience with this type of situation I would appreciate the thoughts. It is a fairly new clutch and hate to trash it. The tiny piece that broke off doesn't sure doesn't even weigh much.
Thanks!
