Polaris Rush

I may have to buy my wife a new house but I will be able to get a new sled. trade offs

So I stopped in at the dealer to get a good look at the Rush and would like to get some real honest information from someone who has put on some miles. I am a trail rider and have always ridden Polaris I started on an XLT 96 than got a 99xcsp 600 and I currently have an 2000 1/2 xcsp edge 600 and 2001 xcsp 500 for my wife (they match isn't that nice)
I am considereing the Rush and have the approval after going and looking at some new to us homes.

I know they have no storage but I think I am OK with that I have a few ideas on a trunk system to go on the back (pattend pending)

So if anyone has had their new Rush out and have some input I would apperciate it. It may be hard to give an honest opinion when you have 10k into it, but try.

You can get a trunk/saddle combo bag for a rush. Go to the polaris web page and you can find all the goods for the rush.

I was thinking like a hard pack that would mount just over the rear shock and bolt on to the rear seat mount I haven't seen anything yet

The more that I keep reading the less I really want to buy a first year sled. I was checking online and found a few dragons anyone have any input on the dragons? both 2009 one is a 121 600 with clicker shocks the other is a 600 switch with ryde FX air

Good call wait for 1st year Rush model to be improved. Dragons are good sleds but dated platform & Polaris due to move to new platform 2011 & Rush may be it. Polaris doing a lot of remapping of 600 & 800 engines so again waiting would be best for 2s. Polaris 4 stroke a solid product did you check out FST or Dragon 4s?

Just bought my dragon sp, used 2009 800, recieved about 8" of snow
last wednesday and had it out.
Had a prox2 700 and I thought that rode nice, there is no comparison
to the dragon.
You do not feel the bumps up front, it seems so lite up front.
I can not believe that frontend can makes that much of a differents.
I guess the rush has the same frontend, different chassis.
Just my 2 cents but im glad I decide to get the dragon, give the
rush a couple years when all the bugs are out of it and it my be my next sled.

I'm just not sold on the Rush. There sure seem to be a lot of moving parts on that back end. If I were you since its such a unique design I would let all the R&D be done by the people that already have one. If people like it at the end of the year then by a leftover at a discount or wait and get a 800 next year.

If you HAVE to have a new sled now why limit yourself to a Polaris. Its unfortunate that some people become so brand loyal that they miss some kick a$$ sleds from other manufactures. If I were buying today here's what I would recommend:

For just a flat out fun sled:
Ski Doo MXZ 800R Adrenaline or Renegade.

If you are more into ditch banging:
Ski-Doo XRS
Ski-Doo TNT
Yamaha Nytro

For a 4-stroke trail rider:
Yamaha Apex
Yamaha Vector
Yamaha Nytro XTX
Ski-Doo 1200

I am predominately a Yamaha guy but I've owned em all. Its hard to ignore that XP chassis. I think top to bottom its the best chassis out there. Now if I could just get an XP with the Apex or Nytro motor and I'd never need another sled.

...For the foreseeable future anyway. ;)

I have a brother inlaw that is the type of guy that if he has it its the best he rides a Skidoo, drives a Dodge so they are all the best at least in his eyes. So as pig headed as it may seem. That takes Skidoo out of the picture, I thought about an F7 but didn't like the fact that they do not seem to hold much oil and you may need to refill during a long ride. I am also not so sure about the Diamond drive they seem to be maintenace headaches if not maintained properly.

You could always get a BETTER Ski-Doo. Then there is no arguing who's better between your brother inlaw and you.

:)

Your right about the Cat. Most Cats I've dealt with rode great but needed the most wrenching time. That's why I have strayed away from the cats in favor of the Yamaha. They may be a bit heavier but when I want to ride I know its going to be ready to go! I can't say enough about the new 4 strokes!

I bought one! Got 70 miles on so far and it is freaking awesome!! If you get down to it there is no more moving parts on this skid then on a conventional skid!! The 600 is polaris's pride and joy and there has been very very few issues with it. I wanted the 800 but after riding this potent 600 I don't think I will need the extra power or price tag. This sled has been tested for 3 or 4 years now and I am sure they got it right. I was concerned as well with a first year sled but not to worried about it now. If you go to HCS and read under the pro-ride tab in the polaris section there is a lot of good info!! As for ski-don't don't bother!! Light weight equals light duty. My buddy has a 09 800r and even with the running board stiffeners that tunnel flexes like crazy... Not to mention if you ever have to work on the damn thing... Gonna try to clean the carbs today, not looking forward to that. I think that they are in there somewhere.....

Buying new I would check them all out. Some new models are not easy to service 2s or 4s & the Rush is one of them. If you have a dealer preference then that will mean a lot to you. Some new sleds are head & shoulders above others in warranty & if you don't wrench yourself then I would look at Yamaha Apex GT LTX. Rock soild 4s well proven sled has everything. I'm a 4s guy now & would not consider 2s except Doo Etek but if I went Doo I would purchase 4tek. I ride Yamaha 4s now but had them all. All new sleds ride pretty good so reliabilty is what counts for me.

I think I have made up my mind I am going to buy a 09 switch 600 $8345 out the door 2 year warrenty and 6 months same as cash 0 payment 0 interest. I have found some switchs with 1000 miles for 7200 but I think the bumper to bumper warranty plus the finanacing for 6months is worth it to me more so the warranty. I know iits not a rush but I think I will be happy it (I Hope) it will be am improvment over my 01 edge 600

Rush

I opted for the tall w/shield. I wish there was more storage space, even with the rear bag that is available, there isn't a whole lot of room in it. I really got spoiled with the rear bag on my 09 SB. I fiddled with the shock on my test ride this spring, but couldn't find the sweet spot that was good on all trail conditions.(but that ride was only 40 miles) I'm hoping with more time/miles I'll be able to get mine dialed in. Haven't been out here in Langlade Cty yet. It looks like a trip to the UP is in the works.

Hoping the Rush isn't the way Polaris goes for the rest of their lineup. Like the other manufacturers, with the RUSH and the lift-off hood or shroud and you have to remove this or that just to get to the engine compartment.

Call me old school, but I favor having a hood to open and have access to the engine compartment, nice for the pre-ride checks and maintenance. I'll ride the dated platforms.

+1 on those 1st year sleds, hope they work out well.

xcsp:you are correct old style hood much easier to check & get at things quickly. Removable panel sleds seem better until you own one then you struggle with all the the panel positioning & you think hey the single hood was much easier. Maybe not in all cases for all things but I do know exactly what you mean.
