polaris speedometer issue

On my wifes RMK the speedo is acting crazy. Says its doing 50 at idle, the max speed says 150, and its added a 1000+ miles to the odometer (not happy about that). I rode it from the shed to the trailer and put on 4 miles in 100 yds. Did some research and everything is pointing to the speed sensor. Anybody else have this issue and is that the correct fix?

Yup, most likely the speed sensor. What year? Had to replace one on my 2013 and my friend on his 2013 too. Was told the bearing is sealed and not to grease it even though there's a fitting there and the manual says to grease it (if I recall correctly).

Correction - mine was clutch side jack shaft bearing but my speedo didn't work at all. I think I had to replace the speed sensor on my 2008.

I did however confirm my friend's 2013 speed sensor failure/replacement. Same/similar speedo behavior.

my wifes sled is a 2014. I will get it in the shop tomorrow and start the repairs. At least get it disconnected so it quits adding crazy amounts of miles.

elf - what did you find as the problem/failed part(s)?

Just replaced the speed sensor last night and while all I did was fire it up on the stand the speedo said 0 mph so thats an improvement. While the replacement of the sensor is simple enough getting to the connection where it plugs in is a PITA. Its located in front of the gas tank so I had to remove the hood, the plastic console that surrounds the tank, the seat, and then loosen up the tank enough that I could slide it back a couple inches to be able to reach in and disconnect the sensor.
