Polaris Voltage Regulator

I suspect that the voltage regulator on my 2001 Polaris 500 Classic Touring is acting up, so I ordered a new one through a local shop and the one they ordered has 2 wires (brown (ground) and a yellow (hot)) my old regulator has only the yellow coming off of it. Now searching online on how to wire it up I see varying ideas, one is to ignore the brown, another has the brown cut and wired to the same bolt that the original brown went to and wire together. The new regulator is a SPI and the oem is discontinued from Polaris so I guess I'm wondering what is the best way to wire up?

its been a wile so not 100% but i think one of the wires is for accessories like a heated shield and its grounded through the screw that holds it to the sled.

Yellow wire goes to your existing yellow on the sled. Brown is a ground, cut it, crimp an eyelet on the end and put it on the mounting bolt.
