Pontiac G6 - Let me hear it...

Looking at buying a 2009 Pontiac G6, about 20,000 miles. Looking to hear the good, the bad, and the ugly about these cars. Anyone haven one? What do you like and dislike? Thanks!

My girlfriend has one-we both love it. Gets 29mpg on average--she drives highway and favorable for good milage (light foot) Its a 2005, the electic power steering went out and dealership goodwill covered it. Otherwise replaced brakes all around and 1 lower control arm (loose ball joint) Currently car has 113xxx on it. I think all the ps steering column issues should be resolved by 2009, prolly not an issue anymore. She bought it at 68xxx miles. 3.5 motor comfy to ride in, plenty of power and handles really sporty---do it!

I currently have a 2008 G6 and I love it (for a car). I miss my 4 wheel drive, but due to high miles that i was traveling I had to get a car. Its been great, handles and rides well. My friend has one as well and really likes hers, with the exception of the 4 panel moon roof. Mine does not have this but hers does, and she is in the dealership every other month to have some cheap plastic washers on it replaced. Not sure if others with that moon roof have the same problem, but that thing rattles like crazy over the slightest bumps.

My wife recently traded her's back in. Overall, we liked the car. The only things we did not like about it was the blind spots in the rear. Backing up and changing lanes isn't always easy with a G6. The other issue was that we had low profile tires, and that car sucked big time in the snow. Other than that, we really liked it.

we have a 09 with the 4cyl, i was surprized how much get-up and go that thing has, we bought it as a car for the daughter to use, i have a hard time getting in and out of it, but once i get in...it is a comfortable car with a nice ride, handles good, no complaints!!

I do not have a G6, but I have owned 2 pontiacs in my life- and both have been horrible. I swore I'd never own another one after the first. 10 yrs later I was convinced to try it again, and car #2 is just as bad.
First car was '96 Grand Am. The radiator hose exploded on the expressway halfway back to college and left me stranded (car had about 60K miles on it at the time). Maybe a fluke. But then the cooling fan constantly went out- the wiring, whatever. It wouldn't run, car would overheat. Literally left on the road stranded with that thing on 4 separate occasions.

I now own a 2004 Grand Prix GT. Bought it used w/ about 35K miles on it. It now has approx 50K miles on it (owned it for about 1.5 yrs). In that time the 'ABS' light went on. Followed by the traction control light. Took it in and there was just a disconnect in the wires. Nothing actually broken, but another wiring/computer issue. THe check engine light has currently been on for about a month and I havent' taken it in yet. I'm sure it's a sensor or something minor. But that stuff adds up. Look at catguy- power steering issue. Megan, crappy moon roof quality. It may be minor, but it shoudln't happen. I had an accord w/ 120K miles on it when I sold it and not one issue. Literally. I had oil changes done, brakes when needed, and set of new tires for that thing. Maybe it's just be, but going from the honda that wouldn't die, back to another pontiac that has had it's stupid little issue, I'm done w/ pontiac.

So my opinion of pontiac quality is very low. The engines are known for being good. It gets good gas mileage- but I just find it very unreliable. However, it's paid for and is our 'extra' car for running around town, so I'm stuck w/ it for now. However, this time I swear- I will never own another pontiac EVER.

Also- girl I work w/ had a G6, 2 door- she liked it, but said it was horrible in the snow. Traded it in for 4wheel drive b/c said she was all over the place. But that's 2nd hand info.

I haven't owned a G6, but I rented one for a long road trip to Quebec. I was not impressed at all. Just my two cents.

g6

We leased a 06 g6 man am i glad we leased it. I will say though i live on a dirt rd. that is always rough and my wife does not know how to drive slow.We went threw three sets of breaks two front strut mounts two remote starts and i broke the air damper under the car by hitting road kill. The car got pretty good gas mileage and handled good on dry pavement but not wet or snowy conditions . This all happened under 28,000 miles .

Well I know you aren't supposed to say anything if you don't have anything nice to say. I haven't straight out owned an American car since 1985, other than a Merc Mystique in the same class as the G6 for the step daughter. I rented a G6 a few years ago and drove it down to FL. The care was O.K., but the ride is substandard and mileage was average for such a small car. Overall I know this, you will have quality problems with this stuff. It just isn't an Acura, BMW or Mercedes - period. If you can't afford anything else, then buy it. If you can afford it, buy a used Acura Integra or TSX, even with 50K plus miles on it, you won't be disappointed. Oh, and if you buy the G6 you better get an extended warranty because you'll probably need it.
