Another heart breaker today. I have been asked to sell my brother's Harley. Glad to help my sister in law in any way I can, but some things are just not easy.

He talked about buying a Harley for a few years. Finally bought a 2010 Heritage Softail Classic and the very end of last summer. He road it 74 miles and then passed away a few weeks ago.

She called the dealer and thought maybe they would want to buy it. Now I know they need to make money, and she figured she would maybe take a big hit from the dealer, but they offered her $10500. Half of what he paid for it......

So sorry about your brother. How sad he finally got such an awesome bike and then so few miles to enjoy it! Not how that should go!!

What a crock that the dealer offered that.

Not defending the dealer, but as a long-time harley owner, I am familar with the dealerships. They are required to take a fixed number of new bikes from Harley every year. Even though your brother's bike is new, it can't be sold as new and the dealers take a lot of trades on new bikes, meaning they usually have a floor full of used bikes.

The economy is making it much tougher on anyone looking to sell a Harley - Harley's are very expensive for the technology that you get. I can't see a Heritage at $21k new, they are usually around $17-18k new. So the $10k that they are offering is not out of line for a sale to a dealer - I would think you could see for at least $15k to private party...but, again, the economy may require more time to find that buyer.

I took a harley to a dealer and they told me it was rough and offered 4,900 the next day another dealer wrote a check for 8,000.
