Portage County Trails

Anybody with reports from riding Plover south to Waushara County and over to Kellner. I know they got around 8 to 10 inches. Heard it was fluffy. Wondering if there is much base???

Rode last night from Kellner to Plainfield. There's a lot of ice, especially in the woods, so be careful. The new snow was fluffy and didn't pack to a whole lot. Good news with fluffy snow is that it blows around and drifts so about 80% of the fields were in really good shape. That other 20% was rough but nothing you can't ride. Those rough spots pop up unexpectedly so if you're hauling across a field you'll get a nice surprise. Get out and ride!

Thanks snowshoe. I ride Hancock to Plainfield to Plower and to Kellner Trails to Ponderosa Pines for a pizza and back to Hancock alot. 100 miles. We are hoping to get a report from Portage County as we go to Almond to Plover to Amherst and down to Hebron and back to Plainfield to Hancock. Any info in those areas would be appreciated. THANKS

Funny - My wife was at Ponderosa Pines today. Her dad was shooting pool league today. Couple sleds out riding she said. They said good conditions. No report on exact trails they were on though. I feel most of that area will be good for next couple days. Glad that there was no sun out today!

Thanks for that info wisco-mb. Get my Fox Float Shock back from being rebuilt Sat. and heading up soooon!!! Any more reports would be appreciated. Portage County if possible.

Cutter F8 Crazy, Husband and I played hooky yesterday and left south of Kellner, up to Plover, Down to Bancroft, over to Heffron and back to South of Kellner. Trails were awesome, only met three other sleds but met the Almond Snow Eagles Groomer twice. Stopped at Raising Cain to warm up and and had a groomer driver and his wife stop in with the groomer from County Line Trail Blazers for a soda and a little break. Lots of drift busting in the fields but groomers have a ton of snow to work for since the blowing and drifting. Trails were mostly flat (except for drifts) and fast. 110 miles of smiles!

starlaker, Wanna thank you for that report. These are the kind of reports that I like (the first hand kind). Wife and I ride out of Hancock and go North and East a lot as well as as up to Tomorrow River Railroad grade over to Amherst and down back to Almond to Plainfield and down to Hancock which is about 100 miles. Can`t wait as we have 5 days starting Wednesday!!! THANKS AGAIN!!

Cutters F8 Crazy, we had AIS at 7:00 Sunday morning. Trails were all flat and snow covered with the exception of a few corners in the woods near Kellner and the road crossings by the time we headed home were getting a little muddy but totally ride able. Took the railroad grade up by Lake Emily, headed to Scandinavia, fueled up in Iola and then started back south towards home. 119 miles of awesome trails. Didn't see many other sleds out either. We met one just heading north out of Kellner and 2 sheriffs on sleds north of Lake Emily. Total sleds all day less then 20. Let's hope we get the snow they are calling for today. Right now it's starting to get cloudier and snow is suppose to start around noon today. I will let you know tomorrow what we end up with. Plan on riding all day Wednesday before the forecasts warm up for the weekend.

Thank you starlaker for that report. YES,let me know how much you end up getting for snow totals. I appreciate 1st hand reports for trails and snow totals. Be up Wednesday afternoon!!!

Conditions were stellar on Saturday! I left Bancroft and headed towards Lake Camelot. Had some family at the fisheree we met up with.
Yes, few corners in the woods south of Kellner were little on thin side/icey, but that was about it for "bad" conditions.
Fields were choppy in the afternoon, just due to traffic/warmer temps/new snowfall. But I consider those fun!

Anchor Bay was busy on Saturday. Polaris was doing some demo rides there. Taking people on 20 mile trips alternating between sleds.
Ran over to Plover, then down to Heffron. 130 mile loop.

More snow will be a bonus!

wisco-mb, thanks for the trail report. Sounds like a great ride. Thanks for the warnings for icy corners. Snow seems likely, heavy wet, and about 2-5 and that can only help.KEEP THE REPORTS COMING. THE CAT`S ARE PURRING IN THE TRITON TRAILER!!!!! BE UP THERE WED.

Cutter F8 Crazy, Just a hair over 4" and now looks like some blowing and drifting which should give the groomers plenty of snow to work with. Playing hooky tomorrow heading out in the AM. Should be awesome. Safe travels and have fun.

Starlaker, thanks for All the info you have given. We opted to stay in this area instead of traveling farther up north and rent a cabin. With your info it appears we made the Right choice as conditions will be great. Feel free to let us know how your ride is tomorrow.

You are probably going to think we are crazy but we only have flip phones and no internet at home so only have internet access at work. Thank goodness were the boss and they can't fire us. Heading toward Waupaca tomorrow. If I think of it I will post right away Friday AM.

Cutterz F8 Crazy. We had a great ride on Wednesday. Trails had been mostly groomed although you couldn't tell in some of the fields because of the blowing and drifting. Once again we headed north on 21N up to Plover. Fueled up in Amherst, rode 22E for a short time and hooked up with 11S and then 26W. Once again the trails had plenty of snow. Met Almond Snow Eagles groomer twice again and heading out of Hartman Creek State Park ran up behind the Tri County Groomer. Stopped in Bancroft for a quick bite before heading back to the house. 125 miles of good to great trails If the groomers went out last night your day should be stellar. We only met 14 sleds the entire ride and just checking to see if we maybe met you on our way back home. We were heading out of Bancroft towards Ponderossa Pines and met two cats, front one black, 2nd one orange heading toward Bancroft. Might want to start out earlier on Friday and Saturday do to the warm up coming this weekend. Have fun.

starlaker, we got up 4ish Wed. We ride All Green- wife F5LXR and I ride F8Sno-Pro. Glad to hear about the trails. It is zero now as we head out about 10ish. I`ll report about it later.

How's that Hartman Creek State Park trail? Probably nice change of scenery compared to field running.
