Post Offices Closing in Michigan

Quite a list. Looks like many UP towns are included in the list. Sign of the times, I quess, but sad.

It doesn't appear they are closing any locations yet, rather it's a list of locations they are studying.

Yes, it is sad. A lot of factors helped but the biggest is the internet with email, online bill pay and other things. I work for USPS and was hoping that maybe eventually transferring to northern LP or UP.

I'm kind of surprised that one or two of the Houghton Lake area offices weren't on that list. There are three offices there. The one in Houghton Lake Heights is pretty small, and the Prudenville office is a bit larger but fairly old. The Houghton Lake office is right in between the other two on the map and is a modern facility with room around it to expand.

The building that the post office in Ahmeek is in was for a sale a while back (still might be). They wanted somewhere in the $60k range for it and it had the post office and three other apartments.

The full $60k in a 10 year mortgage for 5% interest is around $600 a month. They were renting their part of the building for $650 and supposedly would sign a long term lease with the new buyer.

IF this is true I can see why they're looking into closing it.
