Powder Coating Spindles and A-Arms

I've been thinking about powder coating these parts, plus the other misc things up front on my 07 f8. I've changed out all the grey plastic in the past couple years and the only grey left is on the front suspension/steering. I'm thinking of changes the springs out to orange, and everything else black. I realize it's just for looks, but it will also clean up the rust I have on the spindles from the first owner who hauled it on an open trailer. At least that's the excuse I'm using in my mind.

How tough is it to tear it all apart to get these parts off, then put it all back together? Figure it's a good excuse to get a lift to work off of, but just not sure what all I'll need to take off in order to get to these parts.

Here it is what it looks like now.

Not the same sled, but I tore apart my '08 Switchback this summer to clean up the rust on the arms, give them a fresh coat of paint, and it wasn't bad at all. Maybe a little tedious getting at a few bolts but not bad. I did both sides, and also makes for a good excuse to upgrade or rebuild shocks at the same time.

Gary,
I don't know if you have a place to do the powder coating for you, I have had sled parts, motorcycle frames & parts & many car parts done by a place called Metal Prep Services in Rockord and they have always done a great job.

Thanks guys.

I figure I need a lift so I'll probably get one at the Milwaukee show but thanks Teamblue.

Nytro, I've had work done at Metal Prep before, absolutely the best place around. That's who I'd go to. They do high end work for Porsche and other manufacturers but still have time and reasonable prices for guys like us.

Gary,
I figured you'd know about them being from Rockford but just wanted to make sure. Thinking about getting some parts off my Nytro done before the season starts also. Good luck!

I did the same thing to my 06 turbo switchback. Not a bad job just make sure all steering adjustments are checked when done. HI Tech in Waukesha WI did my powder coating and did a spectacular job. Around $100 for all 4 A arms. Powder coating is the way to go if you plan on keeping the machine, the stuff really holds up plus fills in any pin holes that might be around welds that let moisture in to start the rusting process from the inside. Well worth the work for the finished product.
