Lenny just for conversation sake. Unless you have a true indoor wood stove you still need power. If the power fails on all the outdoor wood stove guys then their pumps quit which i believe would not be good?

geo thermal is dependent on electricity and uses a lot of electricity just like an air conditioner. Wood heat is much more cost effective if you have timber and time but it's certanily not for everyone. GT is more practical for a larger number of people but for many wood is still a seriously viable heat source.
GT is a smart system but if you loose power, you have nothing

I have a free standing wood stove with air tubes which promotes some secondary burn of gases. Nice unit which heats whole house easily. We have -4 with wind right now and entire family in panamas and t shirts, 76 degrees right now, no power consumption, just wood I cut and split 2 years ago. Stove is located near dead center of home amd 8 ft from stairs and heat pours up there.
