radar and les

Does les show up on radar, it seems the forecast always says snow, but there's never any snow that shows up on the radar. Down in iowa if its snowing or raining it seems to show up on the radar. Thanks

LES does show up on radar, but it has to be occurring pretty close to the radar antenna (within around 100 miles). This is because much of the LES falls from clouds that are fairly low to the ground and the further away from the radar you go, the more the radar beam shoots over the tops of the clouds due to the curvature of the earths surface.
