John,

As we are gearing up for a trip to Northern Wisconsin, I keep an eye on the new snow and radar in and around the St. Germain area. The thing I never understand is that when they have new snow in the morning or it is snowing now comment on something; the radar always goes bare around this town and county? Am I missing something here?

Thanks,

Because of the curvature of the earth's surface, the further a locale is from the radar, the higher the precip in the clouds needs to be for the radar to see it.

In some cases, the snow falling in St. Germain is falling from clouds too low for the radar to see it. Happens about 90% of the time here in the Keweenaw.
