Raining...

So far this week I have recieved rain every day.
Monday morning .9 dumped the gauge
Tuesday at noon 1.2 dumped the gauge
Yesterday at noon 1.3 dumped the gauge
So far today I have an inch in the gauge.

So four and half inches of rain this week. Its a good thing we live on a hill so it runs away but enough is enough. Mississippi is predicted to go over flood stage this weekend. The old saying of "rain makes more than it spoils" isn't even justification for this.... Most of my customers haven't even cut 1st crop hay yet. Some don't have the bean planting finished yet. We get maybe one or two dry days and then rain for days on end. Crazy weather pattern we are in.

Last year when we were in the 1000 year flood in Vilas I stopped counting after we were passed 20 inches. I feel bad for ya!

The weather is always changing, two summers ago I worked for a farmer in our area and some of the land about 50 miles north of Grand Forks received up to 45 inches of rain that summer, our average for a full year is about 20 inches, and then last summer was real dry, almost a drought. This year we are about normal so far. Devils Lake which is about 85 miles west of us was about 43000 acres in 1992 and then it started raining in 1993 with many years way above average, the lake grew by over 100,000 acres flooding houses, farms, roads and parts of small towns. The water rose almost 30 feet in that time, it has leveled off some and is about 4 feet lower than its peak but with some big rains could grow again. I don't know if there is any such thing as normal when it comes to weather.

Almost 5 more inches yesterday in Northern Illinois in areas. Total over 9 inches in the last 10 days, and we are not the highest total around.

High and dry though, and not looking forward to the upcoming bumper crop of skeeters.

Was in Bayfield last weekend and the beautiful Chequamegon Bay in Ashland looked like rusty brown sewer water . So much sediment washed down from rains it's almost pushing to Bayfield. Wish i could find an aerial shot . Just amazing that much water could be affected . I think the Man up stairs isn't happy with us anymore .
