re-installing drive shaft in 2005 renegade help

Ok, so began the tear down of the skid last night to put my new track on. Everything was easy except for pulling out the drive shaft. We eventually got it but now that I'm ready to put the new track on what is the easiest way to put the drive shaft back in? We had troubles on the clutch side of getting the plate with the studs out of the way to get enough play to be able to get the chaincase side bearing off when taking it apart. Is the easiest thing to put the chaincase side in first without the bearing in place so that we can get the clutch side in place and then push the chaincase side bearing on afterwards?? This seems like it's going to be a beast.

Did you remove the Chain Case, that is how I've always done it, the case will come off the bearing with a little back and forth / side to side movement.

Then putting the driveshaft back in shouldn't be that much of an issue.

i removed the outer cover but did not remove the inner cover or brake caliper. we were able to push the chain side out with the bearing on it and pull the bearing off. it does not look like the inner seal on the chain case moved at all. i'm guessing i'll have to remove the inner chain case cover, caliper, put the chain side in first, get the clutch side in with the plate and studs in the sholes, put the inner chain case cover on, put the outer bearing on then gears, etc etc.....sound about right??

You don't have to remove the whole chain case, but when you are as far as you are it doesn't take but a couple minutes to take the whole chain case off which makes the reinstallation of the drive shaft a breeze.

If i leave the inner cover of the chain case on, what's the easiest way to put the driveshaft in? Would i put the chain side through the seal area first, then put the clutch side in and get that plate with the 3 studs in the holes and then press on the bearing on the chain side? same question if i have the whole chain case off too. I'd probably have to lift the drive shaft up to put the inner cover on, then put that outer bearing in place before putting the sprockets on the chain case, correct?

i have done it a couple of times you dont have to take the inner cover off .if i remember right you slide the shaft in place put the clutch side bearing in place loose .do not tighten .then get the chain side bearing in place .i put grease betwen the seal and bearing .then go to the clutch side tighten the plate .then tighten the set screws on the bearing . on your post about track lugs i dont think a 2'' will fit unless you change the sprockets .

I was able to get the drive shaft in last night pretty easily actually. We used a floor jack with a 3' piece of 4x6 and pinned the track to the top of the tunnel and shoved it all the way to the front and then just slid the shaft back in place with no issues. We put the case back together and I had to put all new bearings in my idler wheels on the skid. We were ready to put the slides on and get the skid in and the parts guy gave me the wrong slides. Now I have to run all the way back there to get the right ones, put the skid in and we're good to go........There's plenty of clearance with that 2" track on there and the regular drivers.......Almost done.
