Re Trail 16 From Trail 5 Sagola to Iron River

I have a saddlebag group traveling from Munising to Watersmeet on Tuesday 1/21. Only lack a current trail update for the segment of trail 16 between Sagola and Iron River. Does anyone have any input to the current conditions?

Well-known member
based on John's forecast it will. Usually this area is thin in "normal" snow years. If we get what the forecast is calling for then you should be good

This is dated 1/10 from the Chippewa Snow Kats..."Trail#16 to Sagola is opened but not yet groomed, the swamps need to freeze. There are wet areas just outside of Crystal Falls, along the powerline near Lake Mary Rd. also between the bridges and Hope Mine Rd. From Sagola at M95 to Wells grade road, trail #16, is open but not yet groomed due to wet areas that must freeze before the groomer can get through."

Rode Trail 16 from Trail 5 to Crystal Falls this afternoon. Groomer has been through everything on that stretch except for two short swamp sections. Would call the trail very good overall; will be excellent once the groomer hits it to pack down all the fresh snow.
