Models Affected:
2009 MX-Z X, MX-Z Adrenaline, MX-Z Renegade and X, Summit Everest and X

Voluntary Recall for:
DPM solenoid valve may be stuck by corrosion. If this occurs, the engine will run rich in warm temperature conditions and may be emitting pollutants in excess of the Federal emissions standards.

Action Required:
1/2 hour of shop time by dealer and they will:
remove solenoid from DPM manifold
Apply solvent on solenoid valve tip and both side openings.
Remove excess with a clean paper (pretty detailed huh)
Activate the solenoid to confirm functionality
Reinstall solenoid on DPM manifold

Anyone else receive this yet?
I have a hunch the real issue is the environment, but running rich means less power, so I am listening. Hopefully will have the sled back together in a couple weeks to take it in.

So it sounds like they're willing to put a band aid on the problem by cleaning the current solenoid, but what happens in another year or two when it's stuck again by corrosion? You'd think they'd be replacing the solenoid with something a bit better vs. a short term fix.

Jp, I agree...this is a short term fix...might as well just tell everyone to "watch out for..." and let it go at that.

Got mine yesterday as well and immediately thought what kind of fix is putting solvent "cleaner" on it. Funny thing I had a mjor issue with my sled all of last year except the first couple hundred miles, MPGs went from 18 to 10. Got the run around from Doo many times and even told then the same sled in my group was getting 18+ and I was told to swap sleds because I must be driving it harder, but how could that be if he was always the leader. Sled was in the shop multiple times and was really worked over. Long story short, it turned out to be a solenoid,(which was brought up on DooTalk and I mentioned it to the shop). I believe there is a high and low pressure one, altho it is my bad to not know if it was replaced. I'm "under" the impression it is now fixed as I did not get to try it since the last fix, altho my buddy drove it is a warm/slushy end of season day and said it was at 15-16mpg.

So I guess it is back to the dealer at least for this check and I'm hoping my original MPG is back.

BTW..I never really noticed any power loss, it seemed to me that the engine was just acting like an old style 2-stroke and not the 2010-approved fuel miser 2-stroke

From the factory they sprayed it with a solvent that made some of them bad. They said when they they went bad you lost all mpg. I think it all depends how much they sprayed on it but all you can do is hope its ok. I wonder how much the part is I would try to get it replaced. I had all the problems with a 2008 so I know what the 2009 owners are thinking.

blutooth: Thanks for passing this a long. This may be my buds long awaited answer to XP 800 8mpg & quart of oil every 60 miles or so. I hope so its ugly behind that thing.

My friend lost 2 days out of 5 of riding out to Togwotee last Dec. because of this problem. New problem but the dealer in Jackson Hole were great help over the phone. He has the smurf sled in my profile pic. Nothing like rebuilding your dpm solenoid in your lodge room while your buddies are out ridng. A can of WD40 and a 9volt battery were used along with a leatherman. The sled would not adjust for altitude changes. Good thing it was stuck on Michigan Altitude 900 ft. and not the other way around. It would of melted down the motor when brought back home. He laughed when he got his recall. And said, "About time". lol sled runs great now, but what if this happens again. He is going to the dealer and demanding a replacement solenoid. as a spare. I will inform on the out come.

Only the 2009 800r. The 600 etec does not have a DPM solenoid because it is a variation of direct injection - no carbs, no solenoid needed to adjust for temperature and elevation differences. The injectors do this themselves...

I hope it is a 1 time cleaning too? Maybe they used some sort of different lubricant during assembly that is gumming up the works?
